"Why didn't you stop him from taking me, you were right there watching him throwing me into the car and you did nothing"

Gun shots filled the room we were in minutes ago before he could reply.

Everyone grabbed their guns simultaneously while I made sure to stay next to Michael.

"Take her to the car," Carter told Michael before returning to the ballroom. My mum came with us and say down in the car but I made sure she sat in a corner far away from me.

"He couldn't have been there that day, he was out buying your birthday present" my mom's soft voice broke the silence.

Looking up at her, all I could see was pain as she recalled the events.

Damon had taken me two days before my twelve birthday so she could be telling the truth but I saw the video, I saw him standing in his office watching it all happen.

"He showed me the videos, pictures, and the hundreds of letters and phone calls which he recorded of you begging him to take me".

Her face only showed confusion and longing as if she'd missed me while I was gone.

"No that can't be true, I would never give you away. That mother fucker-" before she could finish I interrupted her without thinking by mumbling "bad word".

Smiling at my chosen words she corrected herself "- that mother trucker took you away from me, from us, and we've been looking everywhere but we couldn't find you".

My mother's face was filled with tears while she explained her side of the story but I couldn't shake the thought of them not wanting me.

What did I expect to be honest, I've been told they never wanted me for six years and I believed it, but I still missed them all.

Leaning forward I opened my arms to hug her but the car door flew open revealing a very pissed Carter.

Blood trickled down his forehead and his hair was a mess.

My mom asked to come home with us so we'd sort things out and I reluctantly agreed. When carter got in I removed the first aid kit from under the seat and sat next to him in front of Michael and my mother.

Getting out everything I need, I softly turned his face toward me.

"Iris no" he grumbled.

"Carter yes" not allowing him to pull away I placed my hand on his cheek keeping him in place while cleaning the wound.

I felt his eyes burning holes in my face but I continued.

Carter suddenly lifted me before placing me on his lap so I'd have a better view.

"All done" I smiled before sitting down next to him again.

Asking for the driver's phone again he happily compiled so I played my favorite song ridding the car of silence.
