The reflection of the moon and the bright stars were cast on the water. Adults and teenagers were running around the town. The ice cream shops had lines out of the door. Workers were scrambling with their customers before closing time. The night was young and so was the incoming crowd of people.
Neon lights from inside of the bar streamed on the pavement. The music could be heard from two blocks away. Two, broad-shouldered bodyguards stood by the front door. Oddly, the entrance made it look like the townies, or vacationers, were walking into a fishing shack. A very festive fishing shack.
Gavin and Leo strolled down the sidewalk towards the line. The step brothers spotted three girls; a brunette, blondie, and one of them had short dreads. They stood behind the girls, who were eyeing them. It was time for the boys to find out if their glances were for negative reasons. It was time for Leo to win at least two of them over.
"Hey," he said with a small grin. "Are you guys excited for this bar?"
"Yeah, of course," the blondie said with a smile. She was matching his energy with doe eyes. It was the Tinder girl that Leo never swiped on.
"Good." Gavin taught his little brother well. "Can't wait to see it."
The three girls had toothy grins. They switched their train of sight between the two boys. Two, tall broad men in collared shirts and khakis. One of them was taller with dirty blonde hair with a scruffy beard. The colorful lights reflected in his bright eyes. The other guy was almost as tall and had dark, curly hair in a slight mullet. Luckily, he got the sides by his ears shaved before the trip. The girl with the dreads eyed Gavin with her eyes slightly closed and weight on one leg, making her right hip pop. He gave her a goofy smile.
"I'm assuming you guys are twenty-one, too," he said, trying to evaluate a plan.
"The two of us are," the brunette said as she stood in front, ushering a hand towards the girl with dreads. She looked between the two guys, then looked at Leo. "How old are you?"
He looked at Gavin, who gave him an approving nod. Leo glanced at the brunette. "Eighteen. Is that okay with you?"
The brunette gave him a comical smile. "Of course. Even for those guards."
"How so?" Gavin asked, curiously.
"The one on the right is my brother," she said, pointing to him. He gave her a small wave. She turned her attention to Leo. "Just come in with us."
The line shortened and the five of them were next. The brunette led the way and the guards did not question anything. This must be a recurring thing considering they did not even look at Leo or Gavin. The group walked into the bar and it was not what Leo had imagined. The ceiling was covered in streamers that would hang from one side to the other. There were Christmas lights beside them. There was a bar on the left and the dance floor in the middle, which took up most of the building. A DJ was dancing around all the way at the end as he remixed popular songs. Everyone was dancing on the color-changing floor. It was hard to tell if they were consciously, or even purposefully, moving their bodies because the glasses of alcohol were loosely in their hands.
The brunette emerged in front of Leo and stood in front of him. She started to walk towards the crowd while lightly tugging on his shirt. It was notable that he took a quick breath in, considering how tight the shirt was on his chest. He followed her pace as they walked onto the dance floor. Gavin grinned like he was a proud parent. The small girl with dreads put a hand on his arm, which took his attention.
"What's your name?" she asked with sheer confidence. His body was forwards, but his eyes were on her. "I'm Imani."
"That's such a beautiful name," Gavin said, his voice matching his epicurean personality. He moved so that he was fully facing her. "I'm Gavin."
