The sun burned magnificently high up in the sky , the clear blue sky was dotted with dense grey clouds here and there, the bright sunlight shone through the trees , it bathed the tall buildings in warm light , the birds flew along the wind to find food for their survival , on the other hand the men on the land went about their businesses of a late sunday morning routine like having their breaksfast , taking their showers , walking their dogs along the park , catching up with their favourite television shows while on the other hand , some stayed in bed long past the sunrise catching up with a week's sleep just like Vasudha and Pallavan .
It was half past ten in the morning , the sunrays poured into the living room through the balcony and the inanimate objects of the room remained still as that of a well painted portrait , Pallavan and Vasudha slept soundly in their bedrooms and even the brightness of the sunlight that seeped through their window curtains did nothing to wake them up from their deep slumber .
Pallavan woke up to the sound of his snoozed alarm and after turning it off he sat up straight in his bed and checked the time in his phone . Seeing it was close to eleven Pallavan stood up from his bed and went into the bathroom to complete his morning routine. After finishing up everything Pallavan went to his balcony as usual to just enjoy the daylight. As he stood in his balcony taking in the rush of a sunday morning , the events of the previous day floated into his mind and the long forgotten memory of his first meeting with his wife was fresh in his mind from the dream he had . The memory was fresh in his mind and he realised that at last it was he who won the challenge by getting to know her name from her own mouth and it made him grin like an idiot. As his thoughts wandered through various things , suddenly something popped in his mind and he realised that one week had passed since their marriage and an idea took root in his mind.
'Hmm... It's been one week since my marriage but it seems like yesterday. I don't know whether she would like my idea or not but let me try to convince her, ' Pallavan thought to himself and went outside his room to find his wife. As he came out of his room , he checked her room thinking that she still might be sleeping but her bedroom door was ajar and when he looked in the direction of their kitchen he didn't find her there either . He walked into their living room and saw her sitting in their living room sofa looking outside at the few grey clouds that floated lazily along the clear blue sky with two cups in front of her and the aroma of fresh coffee wafted in the air.
Seeing her Pallavan called out to her , " You are having your morning coffee without me , Vasudha ?"
Vasudha opened her eyes slowly from her deep slumber , the brightness of the sunlight that seeped through her window blinded her eyes for a moment. Vasudha blinked her eyes for a few seconds to adjust her eyes to the brightness , she laid in her bed by simply looking at her ceiling as she didn't want to get up from her bed but realising that it was already late in the morning Vasudha went to the bathroom to finish up with her morning routine. After completing everything , Vasudha came out of the bathroom and checked her phone to see the time and it showed as half past ten. After drying her face with a towel Vasudha went into the kitchen to prepare coffee for Pallavan and herself as usual . It took her sometime to prepare the coffee and even then Pallavan didn't come out of his room. After pouring the coffee in the cups Vasudha took the cups to the living room and sat on the sofa while she kept the coffee mugs on the table in front of her. She looked out at the blue sky while she thought of waking her husband up but before she could come to the conclusion she heard her husband's voice calling out to her. Vasudha turned to him and smiled up at him , Pallavan too returned the smile and sat beside her on the sofa.
" You didn't answer my question Vasudha ! Were you trying to have your coffee without me?" Pallavan asked her in a playfully serious tone.
" Well , you could say that ! When someone sleeps for hours after sunrise , they are bound to miss out on the good things of life ." Vasudha replied in a serious tone but her eyes spoke otherwise as they were filled with mischief and laughter.
" Someone could have woken me up , but it seems that person was busy thinking about ways to taunt me for waking up late." Saying this Pallavan turned aside and rested his hand on his chin , in an attempt to show his anger. Seeing her husband Vasudha burst into laughter and after laughing for a few moments Vasudha sobered up and said , "Ohoo! I was just joking , even I too woke up late and I was thinking of waking you up when you called me. Here ! Have your coffee or else it will get cold." Saying this Vasudha gave the coffee mug to Pallavan.
Pallavan looked at the coffee inside the cup and inhaled the freshness of the brew and before taking his sip , he said to his wife , " You know Vasudha ! After what you said yesterday , every coffee that I will be having in the future will remind me of you and the words you spoke yesterday." saying this Pallavan smiled at his wife and Vasudha returned a full teethed smile to him and they both sipped their coffee in silence.
Pallavan placed the empty cup on the coffee table in front of him and after making sure that Vasudha too had finished her coffee , Pallavan asked his wife ," Vasudha ! Do you have any plans today ?" hearing his question Vasudha turned to him in surprise.
"Hmm... To be honest , I don't have any plans for today . I just thought of spending my time catching up with my sleep . Its been a long week and we have a long week ahead too." Vasudha replied in a sad tone. Hearing her reply Pallavan grinned at her and said , " Ohh ! You sound like a school kid , Vasudha! I would agree on one thing though , it sure had been an exhausting week for us but also a week since we got married , so I thought .... I thought of taking you out for lunch..." Vasudha listened to her husband carefully but when he mentioned about lunch her eyes widened in surprise , on seeing her reaction Pallavan said hurriedly , " Only if you want to come Vasudha ! I won't force you , if you don't want to go I wouldn't mind , I understand that catching up with a week's sleep is more important." in a slightly annoyed tone but anyone could tell that he was faking it. Hearing this Vasudha laughed again ,
" So you are asking me to go out for lunch with you , as in.. as in a date ?" Vasudha asked her husband , to which Pallavan nodded his head up and down and looked expectantly at her for an answer.
" Well... To be honest ... I've never been on a date before so I don't really know how it works or what I've to do or say . I might end up saying the wrong things and it might destroy the good tim...."
Before she could go on stacking up what could go wrong Pallavan silenced her by keeping a finger on her lips , moved closer to her and said " SSHHhh....! Calm down Vasudha ! It is only you and me , Vasudha! Its not a test for you to be afraid about anything , there is no one to judge you out there . Even if you mess up , remember I got you covered Vasudha ! You get that ?" Pallavan asked his wife looking directly into her eyes , while a wide eyed Vasudha nodded her head.
" I'm gonna remove my finger now and I want you to calm down and tell me your decision." Saying this Pallavan removed his finger from her lips , Vasudha calmed herself down by breathing in and out slowly .
After a few seconds Pallavan asked her again , " So would you... Would you go out on a date with me ? " to which Vasudha nodded her head in agreement and it made Pallavan's heart jump with happiness .
" Excellent Vasudha ! Be ready by one and we will leave by then. Wear anything you like, Vasudha!" saying this Pallavan went into his bedroom to make the necessary arrangements while Vasudha sat there like a statue , shocked at her own decision.
