Chapter 18
Jahnoi's pov
I went to sleep after three with the setup in full swing, my watch vibrates waking me up with Kemar calling at six. "Uhnm uh, mi wake," I answer telling him and he ends the call.
"Mummy?" I call waking my mother beside me.
I switch on the water heater for the bathroom, then went and put on a pot of tea. I glance through the window and saw a few persons sitting here and there out in the lane and Jalan setting up the things on the food table for tea. I can always count on them I say in my head, as Kemar began knocking on Theous's door waking everyone up. I stretched and did five pushups before turning off the fire and making two cups of lemon tea, I hand a cup to mummy and sipped at mines as I made my bed and arrange my undergarments on one side.
The sound of the marching band arriving as I tie my shoelace made my heart pained, I ask my mother if she was ready and we went out and lock my door just before the hearst arrive. Finey came into the house with Tee-Tee and I send her upstairs to Theous's room with him. I made sure my mother's two brothers were beside her before Roxy cleared the passage and call Finey.
Jasper, Kelm, Roxy, Godzilla, Cutty-Ranks and Fuze came in and I took Tee-Tee from Finey, I felt awkward that she was seeing me at my lowest and when Tee-Tee start to cry I was glad she was here. She came and stood beside me and he stopped crying, I could barely get the words out as she rubbed my back soothingly.
"Mi bredda mi have yuh son and him a'right, mi really sorry yuh neva get di chance fi spend as much time as you wanted with him. Thanks for leaving the door open so that I could find him and take him under my arms of safety."
I know my family and others present may hear me so I didn't say anything else, I pass him over the open casket to Jasper after Kelm snapped a few pictures, he stretch to Finey and she took him. I pointed for her to go back upstairs with him and then the casket was carried out unto our small verandah, so that my family and close friends could view the body. I had them close it and carry it outside the gate for a five minutes view, but when I spot Telephone coming up the lane I tell them in anger to put it inside the hearst.
My cousins held me as I lean over in tears and I tell the bands director that we were ready checking the time on my watch and walking to Jalan as Telephone tries to come where I am. I took the thermos' of hot goat soup he handed me in the safety bag and nodded as he tells me that the igloos with water and drinks were in each car trunks and then went out as Theous's jeep was reversed to the gate.
I waited until my mother got in then go in the driver's seat and drive off asking my uncle Kerry on the phone if he and others staying at the guesthouse uptown was enroute, he answered 'yes' and we drive to the secluded burial site in St. Ann. In tears of anguish, Theous's body was laid to rest at the ninth hour of the morning as he had ask. As I sat talking with my Jah-Nine on the steps of the chapel, I promise myself to start looking into houses or lands for sale in this parish. The scenery was beautiful and this community seems quiet, I'd do my investigation I tell myself and we got ready for the long drive back to town.
Some of my families leave the next day as they have work and other priorities to get back to, I took out my cousins and spend time with them. I carry Finey out with us on some evenings, her hairstyle was too pretty to not go out and I took pictures of her and us. I was jealous of my female cousins and Kish who took her away from beside me most of the times, while the male ones were interested in getting some island women.
I finally carry the last set of foreigners to the airport Thursday evening and got a call on my way back saying Finey was involved in a gang fight with Likkle-Miss and Sham. I drive home mad to murder dem if they harm her in any way, because I know both of them love to stab up people.
