"Why didn't it bother you?"

A knock on his bedroom door made Nathan turn his head. He had been avoiding everyone since he threw up at the well the day before. He didn't even go down for dinner. Nathan knew someone was gonna come check on him eventually. Maggie probably, afterall she was there when it happened. Or maybe it'd be his dad, come to tell him that his reaction was completely justified and not at all embarrassing.
The person knocked again, saying that they weren't leaving until Nathan opened the door. So he stood up from his desk, going over to the door. But when he opened it he didn't see a member of his family, he saw Shane's daughter.
"What are you-" Nathan tried to ask her.
"Maggie was worried about you," Cameron began talking before Nate could finish asking his question. "She asked me to bring this to you," She held out a plate with a sandwich on it. "So here."
Nate just stood there staring at her. He didn't move or say anything. Cameron's shoulders fell as she began growing impatient.
"I'm not gonna stand here all day," She told him.
"Big plans?" He asked her in a confused tone. Ever since the outbreak Nathan has been stuck at home doing virtually nothing. He read his books and helped his dad with the crops but he never left the farm and never dealt with the sick ones.
"There's a little girl that's still missing, so yeah, big plans," She answered him and Nate felt bad for asking. "Can you take the damn plate?"
Nate reached forward, taking the plate from her hands. "Uh thanks."
"Mhm," She hummed but didn't actually say anything else to him. There was no friendly smile or polite glance. She just turned around to go back down the stairs.
Nathan was going to let her walk away but there was a question that had been nagging at him since yesterday. He'd been thinking all night, barely able to sleep. All he wanted to do was ask her and now she was here. And just like that the words left his mouth before he could stop himself.
"Why didn't it bother you?"
Cameron turned around a confused look on her face, "The walker?" Nate cringed at the name but still nodded.
"You all just stood there, watching as its guts fell into the well and then killed it," He remembered and his stomach felt uneasy again. "Like it was nothing, like it was normal."
