For Lost Loves (Poetry)

Butterflies

Revived
The night we met
Blushes, butterflies
Reminisced on bygones
High school delinquents
Accounts of old flames
Time passed, soft rain
Coat offered, refused
You laid bare my diffidence
As I shivered behind you
Unsaid wishes
Looks exchanged
Nothing else

Too deep too fast
First kiss, the parkade witness
Burn out fall out
When you said I didn't love you
I knew it was you who didn't
Secured and certain I am not the one
To turn it around on
Back when I was you
My honesty was never sacrificed
That's our difference
You will never be
Even half the man I was

Some butterflies told me
You would hurt me terribly
You reject my premise
If you were any man
I'd appeal to your ego
Manipulate you into proving me wrong
With only me to lose
Proved me right and apathetic
Bedridden
I endured the days darkened

There I was
Loved by him but not in love
In love with you but not loved

Some lessons were learnt here
You pulled me out of my despair
Blew some life
In otherwise a vacant heart
