Flashback

The weight of responsibility pressed down on me, a constant reminder of the burden I carried. Three weeks had passed since Min Cha-young had woken up.

From her coma her memory shrouded in a fog of amnesia I stood by her bedside watching her sleep my heart filled with a mixture of hope and despair.

"Geunyeo-neun eotte?" I asked Bangsik Suk-young, my voice barely above a whisper.

He turned to face me while his expression a mixture of concern and reassurance.

"Gwaenchana-jil geo-ya. Maeil sangtae-reul hwaginhalge. Geokjeonghaji ma," he said, his voice calm and steady.

He walked towards the door pausing briefly to tap my shoulder.

"Hi-mang-eul irhji ma, arasseo?" He said, his eyes filled with a mixture of compassion and encouragement.

I nodded while my gaze fixed on Min Cha-young's sleeping face.

"Jebal sal-a-nam-a, Cha-young," I whispered, my voice choked with emotion.

Tears welled up in my eyes and I couldn't stop them from falling.

"Jin-hun," a voice called out.

I turned to see Choi Kim-yong walking towards me, her face a mixture of concern and sympathy.

"Mwoga piryohae?" I asked, my voice a mixture of frustration and resignation.

She sat down on the floor her body curled into a fetal position she rubbed my back with her left hand, her right hand gently holding my wrist.

"Butag-inde, Min Cha-yeong-e-ge myeochil hog-eun myeoch ju swige hae-jwo," she said, her voice filled with a mixture of concern and desperation.

"Dakchyeo! Naega eotteon gibun-inji molla!" I snapped, my voice laced with anger.

She unheld my wrist and stood up to hug me. Just then a knock came from the door.

"Ach-im sigsa junbi-dwaesseo," Hwang Yoon-gi said, his voice a mixture of politeness and concern.

"Geumbang galge, jagiya," Choi Kim-yong said, releasing me from her embrace.

I unheld Min Cha-young's hand and stood up, walking towards the door.
