ɞ lonely christmas. ( akito x toya )

i.. really hate this but anyways enjoy this christmas oneshot even tho its february

Toya had never been fond of Christmas, due to his father. But he had so badly wanted to enjoy it this year now that he had new friends. But he knew his friends had their own families and other friends to spend Christmas with.

So, instead of laughing and talking and having fun with friends or family, he was sitting alone in street sekai. Of course Meiko, Miku, and Len were there, but he didn't want to bother them, so he sat outside the cafe on some curb on the street.

He had his knees almost up to his chin, and he sat there, thinking and doing nothing for a solid 2 hours, until he heard footsteps. He looked up from his shoes to be met with the sight of a tall boy who had orange hair. Akito.

"...Toya?"

Toya hummed. "Yes?"

"What are you doing here?" He asked, confused.

Toya stayed silent for a moment, racking his brain for an answer. "Uhm, just.. sitting here I guess. What about you?"

"How.. How long have you been here? I've been messaging you for the past hour! Do you know how worried I was?!"

"Sorry," Toya mumbled as Akito sighed. "I've probably been here for about.. 2 hours by now?"

"Toya!" Akito exclaimed, seemingly angry. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

"...huh?" Toya was confused by the boys outburst, and sort of startled.

"Don't give me, 'huh,'" Akito mocked. "How come you are sitting alone here? On Christmas?"

"I don't have anyone to celebrate with, so I came here. To avoid burdening people." Akitos jaw hung low at the nonchalant response.

"Hello???" Akito sat next to him on the curb. "That's- nobody should spend Christmas alone, man."

Toya shrugged. "Its.. always been like this. I'm used to it. Don't worry."

"Don't worry?" Akito sighed. "Who do you think I am?"

Toya rested his head in his palms. "Don't you have family, or.. other friends, you could hang out with? Surely you would rather hang out with them." Toyas heart hurt as he said that. 'Stop. Don't do that. That hurts. Why does it hurt?'

"Dude, I-" Akito paused. "I have no words. C'mon man, you're going to have a good day today, you don't have a choice. Why don't we go visit Meiko's cafe for a bit?"

Toya nodded. "I guess."

Akito hummed slightly in happiness. 'I need to make sure he has a good day. I'm not sure why, but I just do.'

Toya got up with Akito and the two boys made their way to the cafe. When they made it there, the door made a 'jingle, jingle!' as they walked in. Meiko ceased her conversation with Len and Miku to greet the two.

"Hey, boys! Merry Christmas!"

"Yo," Akito greeted. Toya nodded at the three virtual singers as a greeting.

"Having a good day so far?" She asked as the two took a seat.

None of them answered. Toya spoke up, "yes, it's been fine."

Akito stared at him. "Seriously? Don't believe a word he says, he's lying. All he's done today is sit outside the cafe on a curb for the past two hours."

Len turned to face Toya from his seat. "Huhhhh??? Why didn't you come visit sooner?"

"He said he didn't want to-" He cut himself off when he saw Toya looking at him with an almost pleading look. "Said he didn't want to.. come in yet, because he didn't wanna be by himself, so he just.. waited."

"Oh." Len paused. "Of course you're spending Christmas with him."

"Eh? What does that mean?" Akito asked, sort of defensively.

"You two are always hanging out. You can never see one without the other!" Len grinned. "Something going on?"

Both Toya and Akito flushed slightly at that.

"Oh, Len, knock it off." Meiko scolded. "I think it's great they're such close.. partners."

"See, Meiko! You said it too!!" Len argued.

"Well, they are singing partners.. are they not?" She grinned slyly as Len groaned. Miku laughed slightly at their antics. Akito and Toya had been avoiding each other's eyes the whole situation, embarrassed, but also flustered.

"Hehe, instead of teasing the two, why don't you ask what they would like?" Miku suggested. Meiko turned to look at her, and then the two boys.

"Of course! My apologies, you two. What would you like, the usuals?"

Toya hummed in response while Akito nodded his head, both of them still slightly flustered.

"Okay, it won't take long!"

While they sat and waited, they made conversation to distract themselves from the conversation that they heard coming from the virtual singers.

"Come on, Miku! You see it too, right?!" Len complained. Miku hummed.

"Hmm.. I guess."

"See, Meiko!!! Miku agrees with me!" Len pouted. Meiko sighed.

"Leave them alone, Len. I'm sure they'll realize it on their own time."

Akito coughed and stood up suddenly, flustered. "I'll be.. right back-!" and he dashed off to ask Meiko something. Meiko pointed at a door in the back of the cafe, and Akito rushed off inside.

'He probably went to the bathroom.'

Toya sat, patiently waiting for Akito, which left him to his own thoughts for a while. Meanwhile with Akito, he was in the restroom splashing his face with cold water. He turned off the faucet and used the inside of his shirt to somewhat dry off his face, and left the restroom to go sit with Toya.

He didn't know if he could bare anymore of the Virtual Singer's endless teasing, though. 'Curse you, Len.' 

"Welcome back, Akito." Toya smiled. 'Dammit..!! His smile..'

"Mhm.." Akito mumbled.

Toya slightly frowned. "Hey, if.. what they were saying made you uncomfortable, you can.. ignore it.."

"Huh?" Akito looked at Toya. "What? No! It's- I-.." Akito stuttered. 'What the hell is wrong with me.' He took a deep breath. "It's.. I don't exactly.. mind it.. I just get.. flustered.."

Toya felt his face heat up. "Me too.."

Akito couldn't even say anything. He felt like he couldn't breathe because of how hot his face felt. "..Ah.."

Toya hesitantly and gently grabbed Akito's hand under the table. When Akito didn't pull away or oppose to it, he gripped a little more surely.

Akito wasn't sure what the future held for him, and neither did Toya, but they both hoped that it was a future that had each other in it.
