Chapter Four: Everything Happens For a Reason

"No shit.." Eren mumbled under his breath when he saw Levi sitting in the same spot as last week.

Spotting a girl who looked like she was about to sit in his seat, he hurriedly walked over and took the chair.

The girl scoffed and rolled her eyes before walking away and finding a seat elsewhere.

"Hi." Eren smiled and pulled out his books. Levi lowered his book and smirked.

"Hey."

There it was, Levi's voice. Not only was the accent impeccable, but his deep voice tickled Eren's stomach in places that had never had a feeling before.

Typically, Levi was not approachable. If you got within a two foot radius of him on a good day, he wouldn't hesitate to slit your throat.

He liked it that way: people leaving him alone.  What he had back at his club was enough for him; a makeshift family of his own.

Needless to say, if that "family" walked in this library and saw Levi smiling, they'd panic. Regardless of living with him for as long as time can tell, the image of Levi smiling was not evident in their minds. How was it that a boy he had just met made him smile more in a week than he had in his whole life?

Levi wasn't much of a talker, but Eren just brought out a side of himself that even he didn't know he had.

"I take it you come here often, then?" Eren said with a slight tint of question. Levi nodded his head as Eren pulled his laptop and books out of his bag.

"Every Tuesday and Thursday."

The pair talked for a few more minutes before doing what they came for, reading or studying.

It was hard for Eren to focus on his studies though when he kept glancing over at the man next to him.

The both of them could read, or study, at their homes but that wasn't necessarily ideal for either of them.

Back at Levi's, things were crazy. People were always buzzing around and asking him questions, especially Hange who just annoyed him for fun. He learned to ignore her, but sometimes that skill wasn't enough and he really needed to get out.

Eren wouldn't be able to study five minutes at his house without, unfortunately, being harassed by his step-dad or scolded by his intoxicated mom.

The only good things at that house were the housemaids and his sister.

Eren happened to grow close with the old woman who cleaned his bedroom. She felt for him and really knew how to make Eren feel better. Every time he sat in his room crying, she'd make homemade cookies and practically shove them down his throat as he ranted his issues through teary, sorrowful eyes.

All the time Eren spent staring at his book, he hadn't read a single word. He was shoving down the urge to ask Levi something but his conscience was more powerful.

"What are you doing tomorrow night?"

This time, Eren was the first one to leave.

"I did it." Eren slid into Mikasa's car and sighed. He stared out of the window for a second before eccentrically looking at his sister.

"What exactly did you do?" Mikasa finished putting her hair in a bun and returned the eye contact to her brother.

"I asked him out.. and he said yes!" Eren put his hands over his face and let out a sigh of relief.

Mikasa thought for a moment, gazing down and then back up at Eren with a caring look. "Eren," she began, "you told me he was, what, thirty-eight? I'm not sure this is a bright idea.."

"Mika, it's one date." Eren defended. "And you haven't met him.. you'd really like him too."

"Eren, you just met him. How do you know that you like him, nonetheless that I would. You barely know him Eren." She demanded. After a moment of silence, she looked at Eren who was messing with his finger nails. "Eren, I'm just trying to look out for you like I always have-"

"You don't get to say what's best for me- you don't get it Mikasa." Eren growled and stared her in the eyes. "You got to grow up with boys wrapped around your finger- a-and you liked those boys. The only people who ever want me are girls a-and I don't like them. So when a guy comes along and is actually interested in me, why can't you just support it like I support you?"

Eren got out of the car and stood there shaking his head.

"Eren, I-"

He slammed the door and started to walk home. Mikasa tried multiple times to get him to get back in the car but failed every time. She knew Eren, meaning she knew how stubborn he was, and she eventually drove away.

He continued down the sidewalk for five minutes when it started to rain. He pulled the hood of his hoodie over his head and stuffed his hands into his pocket.

"You're really going to walk home in the rain?"

Eren looked over to the man in a black McLaren.

"Thought you were a mechanic." Eren called through the rain. "How'd you afford that car?"

"Inheritance." Levi shouted back. "Get in the car."

Eren nodded and ran to the passenger side of the car and slid in.

"Are you stalking me?" Eren laughed while pulling on his seat belt.

Levi shook his head. "No," he said. "I was just going somewhere that takes this road."

"Hm.. where ya going?"

"That doesn't really matter, does it?" Levi looked at Eren who nodded and bit his lip. "Just my house. Speaking of house, I'm going to need directions to yours."

"Oh- right. It's straight all the way up until Old Oak Drive."

Levi nodded. There was a moment of silence before Levi said, "Real forward of you today."

"Hm?"

"Dinner at L'Opus au Château?" Levi raised and eyebrow at the younger man. "I could have said no."

"I thought that to myself before also thinking you could say yes." Eren mumbled with a shrug. His cheeks turned evidently red. "But if you said no.. it would have been because it wasn't supposed to happen."

Levi nodded at the statement. He admired Eren's courage. Of course, Levi himself had way too much and was quite cocky, but Eren didn't have that confidence.

It wasn't long before they arrived at Erens house; he lived only seven minutes away from the library.

"I'll uh.. see you tomorrow night." Eren grinned as he stepped out of the car. Levi nodded.

"Bye, Eren."

Eren waved and shut the door to the car. He watched as Levi pulled out of the stone driveway before walking inside his house.

Then it began.

: I already know this chapter is ass trash but it's okay, it'll get better soon once I get to the good parts. Also, some people ask others out the first time they meet so hopefully this doesn't seem too fast for you guys!

Love you all bunches,
