Starting Over [Book 2]

"Do I have to go?" Complains Hiccup. Astrid looks up from her shirt with an irritated look on her face.

"Yes. It will be fun." Hiccup gives her a face.

"Stop that. It'll be fine. Now start your shirt."

"Why do we have to make shirts?" Asks Tuffnut. "It's so stupid."

"Your stupid!" Ruffnut yells at him.

"No, your stupid!"

"No you are!"

"You are!"

"No you are!"

"You both are stupid now shut up!" Astrid yells.

They both cross their arms and grumble inaudible words to themselves. Astrid rolls her eyes and takes the white T-shirts out of the bag. She takes out neon paint, and glow sticks.

"Snotlout, go get me scissors." He rolls his eyes but stands up to go get scissors.

He comes back and gives her the scissors.

They had finished their shirts and had gotten ready for the dance.

The girls shirts are similar: both made muscle shirts that go down to their waist. There shirt says "BLACK LIGHT DANCE" in neon colors. They wear both wear neon green sports bras. They put neon dots all across the front and back of the shirt.

Tuffnut had just splattered paint on his shirt. When Hiccup asked why, he had said he was drawing a picture of Ruffnut. Ruffnut punched him after he said that. Tuffnut then said he enjoyed it.

Snotlout had tried to impress Ruffnut with his "drawing" skills but Tuffnut bumped into him and smudged his paint. Which started a fight. Which caused Ruffnut to join the fight saying "it looked like fun."

Fishlegs, well, he didn't do anything to his shirt saying that he can't draw. Hiccup tried to help him but it didn't work.

But Hiccup tie-dyed his shirt and put "BLACK LIGHT DANCE".

They got in the car at 5:30 and started towards the school.

When they get to the school, they see cars in the parking lot, entering and leaving, dropping people off.

They find a spot and get out of the car.

They walk to the school doors and can hear the music blasting throughout the gym.

Tuffnut and Ruffnut rush off with Snotlout right behind them. Astrid and Hiccup walk behind while Fishlegs tries to catch up.

"So... how was last night with the guys?" Asks Astrid breaking the silence.

"Fine."

"Really? Fine? That's all I get?"

"What do you expect me to say? 'Oh it was amazing. We tee-peed three houses, got drunk, and went to an illegal party.'"

Astrid rolled her eyes and punched his shoulder. Hiccup rubs his abused shoulder.

"And you wonder why I have had a bruise there for three months. You know, if people start asking why I have a bruise there, I'll just say my best friend has something against my shoulder."

Astrid smiles and kisses his cheek. She sees a blush creep across his cheeks and his ears turn pink. She notices how the blush makes his freckles stand out. She has known he has freckles but he has a lot. She thinks it's cute.

They enter the gym and it's all dark. But that's the point. She sees the white shirts glowing under the black lights. And there are a lot.

They head farther into the gym to join the party.

Hiccup is sitting at a table, watching his friends dance. Hiccup didn't want to dance because of his leg. It is still bothering him for last night.

The have been trying to get him to dance but he doesn't accept. He doesn't want his leg to start hurting then for them to get worried and make them leave the dance early.

A new song comes on and he sees someone walking over, when they get to him, he sees Astrid with a huge smile on her face. She grabs his arm and drags him to the dance floor.

He realizes the song is Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon.

How Ironic.

She gets him to dance with her. She gets him to smile through the pain.

When the song is over, she lead him over top the table again. She didn't see him limping.

When Hiccup got home, he saw his dad's car in the drive way. He walks into the house, and sees his dad in in the dinging room, looking at papers with a look of concentration on his face.

"Dad?"

His dad looks up and smiles at him.

"Where were you tonight?" It didn't sound like he was upset.

"I was forced to go to the Black Light Dance tonight. I didn't think it was fair that I got no say in it."

"Did you have fun?"

Hiccup nods and smiles.

"I'm going to go up to my room for the night."

His dad nods and looks back down to his papers.

He heads up the stairs to his room. He opens the door and is suddenly knocked down to his feet.

He looks up and sees a giant dog hovering over him.

"Dad? Why is there a giant dog in my room?"

"He's yours." He yells back.

He looks back at the dog and it licks him. Hiccup smiles. He manages to get up. He walks to his bed and motions the dog to get on the bed.

The dog does so and gives him what looks like a smile.

"Huh... toothless."

The dog's ears perk up at Toothless.

"You like that? Okay. Your name is Toothless you big baby boo." He said scratching Toothless behind his ear.
