Hiccup wakes up. He has a smile on his face. But then he thinks... was it all a dream?
It seemed too good to be true.
Of course it was a dream. There was no way his dad came back to him. He still lives with abusive Uncle Tom. He never got arrested.
He sighs and sits up. He groans when he stretches. His back has been sore for awhile. And it will be because of all those years of getting abused and more years to come.
He puts on his prosthetic and stands up. He hears something loud in the kitchen. He is utterly confused. Since when is Tom here in the morning? And if he is... of pray to god he lets him off easily.
He looks in his mirror in his bathroom. His eye is still bruised. His face isn't as tan as it usually is. But not really pale. He takes off his nightshirt and looks at his back.
He took off the wraps awhile ago. The skin is still pink and the lines are very visible. He puts it back on and walks downstairs. When he does, he thinks he is still dreaming.
There standing in the kitchen, trying to make breakfast-emphasis on trying- is his dad.
"Dad?" He asks, not believing that this is real.
"Good morning Hiccup." He turns to look at him. He had missed his son.
"Dad. C-can I ask you something?"
"Sure. Anything." Stoick doesn't like the look on Hiccup's face. He looks almost, scared.
"Um... W-why did you leave? Was I that much of a disappointment to you?" Hiccup's voice cracks. He isn't sure if he wants to know. But knowing that the past few hours haven't been a dream, he has to know.
Stoick walks up to Hiccup. Hiccup backs up. Tom has made him afraid of adults being up close to him. Stoick stops, knowing Hiccup is in a fragile state.
"Come with me." He says to Hiccup. He leads him to the living room. He gestures for Hiccup to sit on the couch. He does so. Stoick kneels down in front of him. Hiccup looks almost terrified.
"You are never going to be a disappointment to me Hiccup. I was stressed and upset. I was so because you look so much like your mother. It was hard to see you every morning when all I would see is your mother. I know I was never there for you and no excuse is good enough for why but I'm sorry. For everything. You have been strong for so long.
"But I want to be here for you from now on. And I know it will be hard for you to trust that and I understand. And I know it will take time for you to trust me but I won't leave you again. I don't want to miss anything else. I missed you Hiccup and I'm sorry."
Hiccup isn't looking up at him anymore. He is looking down at his lap. But he doesn't need to see his face to know that he is probably crying.
"It's okay." He whispers, wiping his eyes.
"Hey Hiccup. How would you like to move to Scotland with me for the rest of High school?"
