TW // DRUG USE AND A FORM OF SELF-HARM.
Sam's POV:
As the sound of the butter knife scraping across the surface of crispy golden toast sears through my ears, i hear my daughters bedroom door open wide, and a loud morning-breath smelling yawn exiting her small mouth. She turns the corner into the kitchen, scratching her bed-headed scalp, attired in a blue nightgown that reaches her knees. "Morning, beautiful daughter of mine. Did you sleep well?" "Yeah... why are you in such a good mood?" "I thought we'd play hooky today and go to Coney Island, just you and me, like old times. It's been a while since we did something like that together." Kelsey pulls out a stool and hops into it, elbows perching on the kitchen island as a worried look sweeps across her features. "Mom, are you feeling okay?! You wouldn't miss work for anything." "I'd miss it for you. Come on, it'll be fun." "Okay... but only if we can invite Anna." i whirl around at the mention of her two syllabled name. "Anna? My HR consultant? Why do you want to invite her?" "Because i'm not dumb, mom. I know you like her. My 'daughter-spidey-senses' are second to none." i chuckle as I grab a plate and place my daughters breakfast on top of it, handing her the meal along with a cup of juice. "Is that right?" "Mhm." "And... what if i did like her? Would that... bother you?" she chomps down on the toast monster-style, crumbs dirtying the countertop below her. "Why would it bother me to see my mom happy?" i grab a tissue to accommodate to the specks of butter around Kelsey's cheeks, leaning forward to wipe them off briskly from her cheeky, red-freckled face. "I love how mature you've become. Sure, we can invite Anna if she's not busy." "You're her boss mom, you can just give her the day off." i've failed to find an advantage to mine and Anna's unholy situation until now, i guess. Thanks, Kels.

After breakfast, me and Kelsey are taking the short journey up the elevator shaft to Anna's apartment, to put her out of her misery from the mysterious text i sent her telling her not to come into work today. "So, are you and Anna in love?" my mind gushes back to last night, when my tongue sweetly devoured Anna until she was roaring with joy. But i dismiss Kelsey with a chuckle, taking her chin in my hand. "Love is complicated, sweetie. It doesn't just happen overnight." "So you're saying you'll love her eventually?" as my mind interrupts itself with a wave of unknown sickness, the word 'love' burns itself into my anatomy... "We'll see, hon." we walk inside Anna's apartment to find her stood next to a strip of diazepam medication, two pills popped, ready to swallow, a cup of coffee standing beside them. She tilts her head up with a smile when she sees us, but my gaze is purely on the daunting foil-covered medication... "Hello, ladies. To what do i owe the pleasure?" "Hi, Anna! Will you come to Coney Island with us?" "Playing hooky, huh?" Kelsey nods her head, smiling happily at the upcoming events. "If you don't mind me tagging along, i'd love to come. Sam?" i click myself back into reality, hoping no one noticed my zoning out period. "Hmm?" "She said yes, mom!" Kelsey jumps up and down like an erratic bunny rabbit, her excitement piqued massively. "You two wait while i get dressed?" "Sure, take your time." Anna re-emerges from her bedroom only minutes later, and we all head out to Coney Island for a day of fun.
