Aurora Wasn't a Good Child, and That Didn't Help

Aurorawind Sweetwater was born of a Uppertrunk family. To a Rooter that meant she was basically Canopy. To the Trunk, it meant her family wasn't good enough, and they should die trying. Through dust at the problem to prove your worth, work hard until you can look like you belong in the Canopy, go to every party, event, school with Canopy people that you can and be seen with them, confused with them, until you feel like you're one of them. That's the Uppertrunk way and everyone expected it of each other.

This is why Aurora liked most of the people around her, barely knew her father; he was so busy trying to become a Canopy fairy that his name has been forgotten by everyone. Aurora was 'raised' by her mother, but it would be closer to say she was pressured by her mother to be 'normal'.

Aurora, much like her child years later, did not enjoy being told who to be.

An issue that the Rooters will be forever in ignorance of, is that drug use is very normal in the Trunks and Canopy. It's not that drugs are good, it's that the effects they give are necessary to live such a competitive life. Either they're helping you destress from the race, or they're making you fight harder. Adults knew this, but didn't say that to children because you didn't want to encourage them into drug use, that's terrible. Conveniently forgetting that thinking was how they got themselves into regular drug use.

So Aurora, being told to not do drugs because they were bad, and study hard and work hard because only going to parties wasn't good, went to parties wherever she could find them and did all the easy to access drugs she could get.

It was at one of these parties she met an oldly grounded person who was working. It was very rare to meet professionals who worked during parties, but sometimes the parties happened around life.

Sander was from the Roots, but she acted enough like a Trunker to get her work appraising the machines of various business either for the machines to be sold, improved upon, or bought. Sander, daughter of Santher, didn't like parties, didn't like drug use, but did like when a pair of piercing green eyes told her she was the most beautiful fairy in the building, with her plain suit and hands stained with oil.

They fell in love easily, and did their best to stay in love. But it's not easy when one is an adult and the other is a child who won't change in an adult's body. And they were both young enough to believe love could overcome all.

It wasn't until Aurora went to the wrong party, did the wrong drugs, mostly Grim though Giant's Tears were in there, and became pregnant. When asked by Sander how she became pregnant, Aurora never answered but got a look in her eye that said more than Sander wanted to know of the usually calm, thoughtful woman who liked talking about machines and how difficult it was to start your own business.

Seeing that their lives were going to change forever, they decided love would overcome all, and moved to the Roots together to start a small Junkyard that only held on because Aurora knew enough people to borrow Dust off when they needed it, and despite hating school, was a very good bookkeeper. Mirth was born and they were happy living their slow, self-directed lives without the luxuries of the Trunk, because they really did love each other.

It would've been fine forever, except one day Aurora, in the height of her contentment for her family, felt a feeling so strong it lifted her off her feet.

Her wings glowed with her deep happiness, and both Sander and Mirth saw her with excitement.

Until two fairies came and took her away.

She was gone for a week, and when she returned, she was hollow. Mirth lost their mother and Sander the love of her life.

It was only when a friend visited and gave the Hollow Aurora some grit did the green return to her grey eyes. And suddenly, Aurora was there, whole and angry that something else had been taken from her against her will.
