I finally got home from Ronnie's and it's pretty late now. I know I'm going to have to have a long conversation with my dad and I'm not looking forward to it at all. I know I have a good reason, but what if he doesn't see it as that. What if he tells me I should mind my own business or that I shouldn't get myself into trouble like this?

Well, whatever's waiting for me, it's right on the other side of that door. I slide my keys inside the lock and twist it. On the other side I found my dad sitting in a chair. He has some documents infront of him on the kitchen table where he's sitting.
He sees me and gives me a nod, he's waiting for me to get out of my outside clothes and get ready.

It's not like this is a huge deal or anything, right? But the tention is still palpable. You could cut into it with a knife if you swung it around in the air like a maniac.
I decided to start the conversation once I made myself decent. "Dad, I know it sounds bad but if I didn't have a good reason I wouldn't go talking to her. You know that, right?" I explained.

He thought for a moment. "Well then. What is this reason you keep mentioning. It's got to be a pretty big one considering who you're asking to contact. This woman really hurt us, bad." He demanded.

I sighed dramatically to emphasize my point. "I know, I'll explain." I took a breath and he looked at me calculatingly. "So. There are a few things you don't know. I have been seeing a woman recently." I decided to start with that since it's clearly something he needs to know to see the point in this.

He looks happy but keeps his smile tame for now. "That's good. I am upset that you didn't tell me, but I'll allow you to continue." He leaned back a little.
"So this woman has a child..." I said. He sighed and groaned a little. "Awwh hell. Do I have to become a grandfather already? How old is she, a bit young to have a kid at 19?" He asked. I gulped, I don't know if he is okay with our age gap since he's pretty protective.

"Well, she might be like, pssh, I don't know? Thirty?" I squeeked out her age really fast at the end and tried to move on. Before I could say another word he interrupted me. "Thirty? Wow. Now that is a bit too old for comfort." He leaned back and showed some dissappointment. Not the kind where he doesn't approve, but the kind where he just doesn't know what to say at all.

"Look that's not the point. We can discuss my relationship with her later, okay? This matters more, back on topic!" I demanded.
He made a groaning noise and let me go on. "So this woman is in a custody battle over this child. The man is not fit to be a father at all but she doesn't have enough proof. I need to catch this guy!" I got frustrated.

My dad looked puzzled a bit. "What does this have to do with your mother?" He asked me.
"See this guy was involved with mom back in those years. I even got into a fight with him once and he still has a scar from it." I said. Dad thought for a bit before a lightbulb lit up on his head.

"I know who you're talking about. I remember the fights they used to have. I hated him and that made your mother bring him around even more. His name is Xavier Montgomery. It has to be the same guy." He said. "If you want your mom to go against him, I'm not sure if she's willing to. They were thick as thieves even though they always had so much to argue about." He muttered.

I thought for a minute and we held some silence to collect our thoughts. "Here. The prison your mother is in. Here is the number, you have to ask for her by name. They will arrange something, a phone call most likely but hopefully a meeting. Ask for a face-to-face, she might comply easier if she has to say it to you while you're sitting right there." Dad said as he slid me some papers.

I look over them and see that there is a phone number, an email address, a fax and a bunch of other outdated stuff. I'll call the number to make this as quick as possible, no time to wait for them to return an email. "Just be careful with this. And I want updates! All the time no matter how insignificant, okay?" He stated his conditions. "Alright, fair enough. You really helped me today, thanks dad." I said as I stood up with the documents in hand. "No problem. Don't take a bite you can't chew though. I trust you." He said and that ended our conversation. I was walking over to my room from the kitchen and saw my little fatass of a cat laying on the couch all spread out. I went over to him and patted his belly, then scratching and petting it. He's a really loud cat, the purring is hilarious. But maybe that's because he's been deaf since he was born so he doesn't know how loud he is.
