"Clover! C'mon baby!" The jingling of her collar rings out throughout the hall, before coming to a halt. "Time to eat!"

I fill her bowl up and high pitch whimpers echo off the walls. Deciding to investigate, I head over to the staircase. Low and behold, Clover is at the top of the stairs, her head resting on top of her paws.

Being a new dog mom has been a breeze. Clover is a fairly easy puppy, that is until it comes to the stairs. She is absolutely petrified of them. Going up them isn't the issue, it's going down them.

"Why are you crying, baby?! We went down them yesterday!" I coo at my three month old puppy.

Her whimpers only louden when she sees me at the bottom of the stairs. Her front legs step down, but she quickly pulls back.

"Oh, are we going to be a drama queen today? You want mama to go down with you, huh?" I head up the stairs, knowing exactly what she wants.

Sitting down on the top step with her, I slide down the stairs slowly, Clover following next to me. She reaches the bottom, jumping into my lap. "Good job, Clo!" I press a kiss to the top of her head and set her down. She follows me into the kitchen, trotting over to her food bowl and starts digging in.

My phone lights up, a text notification fills the screen.

brother: do you get anywhere on time?

me: hey, mom life is hard. it's not my fault your niece refused to go down the stairs again.

brother: that's my girl.

brother: well, everyone is here. do you want me to order you anything?

me: yeah, i want the usual. i'll be there in 10.

Once Clover is done eating, I grab my bag and give Clover a quick kiss, then i'm out the door. Walking down the sidewalk, I head towards the cafe just a few blocks down from my house.

Our family tries to meet here at the beginning of every month. My moms started this once Silas and I were moved out of the house. All of our schedules can get pretty chaotic at times, especially Silas, so this is a way to make sure we set time aside for family.

The smell of coffee and maple syrup surrounds me as I enter the cute little cafe. The bright color walls, checkered floors, and the endless amounts greenery never fail to excite me.

"Monroe! Hi, dear! How are you?" Alice, the owner of the cafe, greets from behind the bar.

"Hi, Alice! I'm good, you?" I wave sweetly.

"That's just wonderful! I'm doing well also." She answers, while wiping down the counter. "Oh, how is that precious puppy of yours?! I saw you two out walking yesterday."
