"You want to tell Sokka?" Zuko asked surprised as he was making dinner for his children and his uncle in the large tent they shared.
"Suki knows, and if your comfortable with it of course, everything stays the same but maybe no more secrets?" Katara played with the ends of her long hair.
"Do you tell him everything or just the boys?" Zuko kept his back to her as he stirred the pot of soup.
"That's why I'm talking to you," she walked over and sat with him.
"What if we told them everything? Or I can, I'm ready for the backlash that'll come, I know Sokka will feel betrayed but.. I missed my chance to be the boys family but Sokka and my dad deserve a chance to be their family without sneaking around," she kept her head down.
"I'm starting to hate secrets," she whispered.
"Then go ahead and tell Sokka, I understand and you are right, Sokka is the twins uncle and Hakoda already loves them too," Zuko sighed softly looking at her.
"I do want to ask if you'll join me tonight though, a moonlight walk once the kids are sleeping," he grinned a little.
"Prince Zuko are You asking me on a date?" Katara blushed a little smiling back.
"I am my love, am I able to win your heart once again?" He leaned a little closer to her.
Katara pursed her lips and paused. She loved Zuko so much already, she always had even when she left. They use to be so happy, she never doubted their future together when she said yes to his proposal.
"Since I've seen you again, I haven't felt this happy in so long, you never lost my heart my love," Katara touched the side of his cheek, gently touching the scar.
"I'd love to go on a date with you," she smiled. "But... I want to go slow, at least till the war is over, we can talk again after,"
"You're saying..." he was surprised by her answer.
"Spirits Zuko, I'm so afraid still, I haven't faced my fears, but If it's okay with You I can try for the boys, I want to make things right," she kissed his scar lightly.
"I will try for you," she kissed the corner of his mouth.
Zuko grabbed her chin and kissed her deeply, they both sighed into the kiss.
"For Agni sake keep it family friendly," iroh walked past the open tent entrance.
"Uncle!" Zuko called back wide eyes.
"I'm just saying when you cook dinner it would be appreciated to keep it family friendly," iroh smiled sweetly at the two.
"And I think it's great that your taking things slow," he winked, Katara giggled at how embarrassed Zuko was getting.
"Come on, let's go tell Sokka he's an uncle," she stood up and offered him her hand.
"I'll let you take the lead if you'd like, I'll be there to support you," Zuko took her hand and kissed her knuckles softly.
"Thank you my love," she smiled.
To them it all felt natural, like no time passed for the years they lost, they moved together like they were one, it was natural and comfortable, the look of adoring love they both had. Zuko always believed in soulmates but he never would've thought he'd find his.
"Hey Katara," Suki waved as she was with her boyfriend who was stuffing his face.
"Hey guys," Katara gulped a little as Zuko was standing behind her.
"Sokka can we talk to you?" She asked and Suki got the hint to leave.
"Uhh sure?" Sokka swallowed the food and set his plate down.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Yes but it's just something I need to tell you, I don't want you finding out the truth through someone else," Katara pursed her lips with her arms crossed tightly against her chest.
"I don't know how to tell you Sokka so I'm just saying it flat out, um.. your-you are an uncle," she could feel her hands shaking as she kept her arms shaking.
"What?" He blinked. Looking at his little sister then back at Zuko, then her again.
"You're pregnant?" Sokka gasped.
"No!" She cried out.
"No I'm not pregnant, but I was five years ago," Katara groaned a little.
"Holy shit Katara, where's the kid? What do you mean- who's?" Sokkas voice got higher and higher.
"It's a long story, but basically, aito and Ren are mine and zukos children, dad knows and you deserve to know too, they're your nephews," she explain softly.
Sokka went silent.
"Oh the boys know too," Zuko pitched in.
"So you two were together? You had children? You banged my sister?" Sokka blinked pointing at them.
"Ew don't say bang," Katara scrunched up her nose.
"I didn't see you guys for years and you two were together? I thought you both had a fall out five years ago?!" Sokka cried out.
"We were together for a long time before, but I.. I left after I had the twins, we did have a fall out, it's the reason for our fight," Katara nodded slowly shameful again.
"You left your kids?" Sokka was taken back.
"Katara that's not like you," he shook his head.
It was Kataras turn to be silent.
"What happened?" He asked them quietly.
"I lost one of the triplets and I almost died, so I ran away," she tsked.
"Triplets... Katara that's... So that's why you were fighting so much when we came back," Sokka looked at his little sister with pity.
"I was still angry, but we've talked and I've forgiven her, and now we think it would be best if there's no secrets," Zuko told him as Katara kept her eyes down.
"Are you two together now?" Sokka asked curiously.
"We're patching things up but..." Katara blushed a little with a shrug. "I'm just trying to build a relationship with the twins, I would never want them to think it's their faults,"
"And they know? You're their mother," he pursed his lips.
"Yea, when we got to camp," she nodded.
"And dad knows?" He asked again.
"He's known the twins since they were infants, he came to me looking for Katara and he helped me," Zuko elaborated.
"So.. I'm an uncle?" Sokka smiled.
"I always wanted to be an uncle!" He hugged his sister and kissed her head.
"I'm glad your okay, but I'm going to go find my nephews," Sokka chuckled before running away.
"You okay with Sokka being involved?" Katara laughed a little at her brothers humor.
"Maybe he'll tire them out for me," Zuko smirked back.
"That wasn't bad," she smiled brightly at her lover.
"We're patching things up?" Zuko teased and she pushed his chest giggling.
"Obviously we still have healing to do but I think we've been patching up," Katara looked up at him as he pulled her back by her waist.
"Meet me outside camp and we'll go on a date, I'm going to make up lost time," Zuko kissed her forehead gently and she hummed a little holding around his shoulders.
"I'll be there," Katara agreed.
