Patchpaw opened his eyes to a beautiful meadow. As he looked around he saw a dark brown, almost black tabby tom with dark blue eyes and a young grey dappled she-cat looking at him.
After a few heartbeats, the duo approached him and the tabby tom spoke. " Welcome to StarClan Patchpaw. You may not recognize me but I know that my sister thought that I would have been your father instead of Appledusk. "
Patchpaw stared at the tabby with wide eyes before finding his voice. " Are you...Birchface?" He asked recalling what Mapleshade and Frecklewish had told him and his littermates about their supposed father.
The tabby tom nodded. " Yes, I am. This is Flowerpaw, my apprentice." He told Patchpaw, nodding towards the grey she-cat who approached them, with the expression in her pale green eyes showing curiosity and kindness.
Patchpaw wondered why those two cats were chosen to be the ones to greet him. "_Do you have a reason to be the ones to greet me?" He asked.
Flowerpaw nodded. " You know how we died? Birchface got accidentally knocked down Sunningrocks by Appledusk and I jumped into the river to save him. However, we both got swept away by a strong current. " She told him.
" So your deaths were an accident? Appledusk didn't mean to kill either of you!" Patchpaw mewed as he realized what Flowerpaw told him.
Birchface nodded. " That is correct. I'm sure he never intended for me to lose my balance on the slippery rocks nor for Flowerpaw to jump into the water after me. "
