Even with the duvet wrapped around me, I perched on the bed's edge, the door in my line of sight.

"Let me start over. Hi, my name is Miriam. What's yours?"

He said nothing.

"Why don't we try this again. I'll introduce myself and you'll tell me your name. Can you do that for me?"

Not a shake of the head and no response. I felt it as the thread of my sanity snapped and came close to cutting.

"Okay, if that's too much, want to tell me how I got here or something?"

Nothing.

My smile wavered for a moment with no answers, despite the many questions I asked. I threw my hands in the air, giving up as I fell back on the bed. The thought of running out of the room and finding an actual person to answer me was there, but after watching one too many horror movies, I pushed it aside. The devil before me was better than whatever horrors possibly awaited me.

"Do you plan on not answering my questions and keeping your mouth shut? If that was your plan, maybe you shouldn't have stuck around till I woke up," I said, blowing away a strand of hair.

I heard his chair creak, sliding over the floor before there was nothing but silence again. Rolling my eyes, I raised my body, using my eyes to scan the room again.

Apart from the gorgeous bed in the middle of the room, there were few props, nothing special. The dresser was beautifully carved; I struggled with taking my eyes off before I noticed the same designs on the other furniture.

Whoever had done them was a master carver.

There, my mind was getting distracted.

I wondered who owned the room. Even with no defining features, I couldn't picture it belonging to the man before me. Tired of hoping for answers, I made my way to the windows. The curtains had been pulled together. What I was hoping to see, I can't remember. Maybe I had the hope of still been in my pack. Though I didn't know everyone in Andromeda, it would have been impossible not to notice such handsomeness even if we only crossed paths once.

Even though, judging from his tan, this man couldn't have been from my pack, nothing could have prepared me once I opened the curtains.

Instead of the usual evergreen trees I was used to seeing, I saw nothing but bare land filled with tanned people as they kicked and punched one another.

I gasped, watching as they turned their heads to me before the curtains shut again.

I wasn't in my pack, nor was I anywhere close to it. Though I knew he was the one behind and I was meant to be wary, it filled my mind with nothing but questions.

Even Amaris couldn't control her fear as I felt it envelop me.

I stood still, feeling his breath on my neck and took a deep breath in. The closeness of our bodies allowed me to feel everything, the electricity as it flowed from his body to mine, causing my hairs to stand upright and other things. What was happening to me?

"Why can't you answer my questions? Is it so hard to tell me where I am, who you are and why I'm here?" A tear fell from my eyes and though we weren't looking at each other, he stopped it in its tracks.

He laid his hands on my shoulders, twisting me till I gazed into his eyes. This close, my nose almost hitting his chest, I caught a whiff of his scent. Books old with time and wood polish. Despite how clashing both scents would have been, he made them work. I felt as my nerves settled and my belly came alive.

"Stop crying. Waking up in a strange place and coming face to face with a stranger who was watching you sleep might have been creepy. But every time I wanted to speak, I couldn't. Also, watching as you tried to make sense of what was happening to you was a bit hilarious." he said, dragging his thumb and finger close together.

Even though we were close to one another and I felt the vibrations of his chest as he spoke, the words made no sense to me at first.

"Can you repeat that?" And he did. Hearing it again, I overlooked his accent, picking at the words until they made sense. I felt a shift in my memory, his voice making me recollect something before it got blocked again.

"You're saying that I was a source of entertainment to you," I said, raising my brows.

"Maybe I didn't convey my thoughts properly. I didn't intend to make you fret that much. Honestly, I wanted to speak, but I was waiting for you to recognize me."

"And why will I know you? We're just meeting for the first time," I said.

He dragged his hands through his hair, flashing me an incredulous look. "You don't remember me? Not my voice or anything?"

I shook my head.

"Trust me, if I could remember you, then I wouldn't have asked those questions at first. Neither would I have been afraid after I woke up. No matter how many times you twist your head, nothing's gonna change. I don't remember you. And if I did, I'd have been out of here long ago."

Throwing his hands in the air, he moved from his spot. "You can't leave. Let's try this again. We obviously started on the wrong foot, tensions are high, and we need to calm down."

"I'm calm though."

"Let's start over. Hello Miriam, my name is Trenton. I'm the Alpha of the BloodVenom Pack. And that's where we are right now. My pack is on the Mirolaw Mountain, hidden from trespassers. Welcome to the pack."
