Trenton?
Alpha?
New pack?
But how did I get here?
"That doesn't explain anything, though. What exactly am I doing here?"
At first he said nothing, before chuckling and making his way back to the chair. The noise from the floor scraping was the only sound at first before he sat down.
"You're funny. Since you can't remember anything, I'll help you. A few of my warriors and I were on our way to another pack when we stumbled upon you..."
He paused for a minute and when I made shooing motions for him to continue; he dismissed me.
"You seriously don't remember?"
"Duh!"
"Well, I don't know how to say this... but when we found you, it wasn't a pretty sight. The bodies of your pack members surrounded you, clutching onto someone's skin, crying and wheezing. Everyone had been murdered, and you were the only one left alive... do you remember anything now?"
Mama?
Everyone? They were all murdered?
It sapped my strength out of my legs as I fell to the ground. His words had cemented my fate as the last Andromeda pack member. But how come I had no recollection of anything. Was the massacre too bloody for me I forced myself to forget? Could my pack had angered another pack so badly that the only thing left to do was annihilate mine?
Why had I been the only member left alive?
All those questions and yet no answer.
"Miriam, hey there's no reason to cry. I know it hurts but..."
"But what? Tell me, but what? I had to find out the fate of my pack through your words. I'm forced to believe the things you said and with no explanation, I have to accept it. So tell me but what? You don't have no idea what I'm feeling so don't talk."
"Why did you save me?" I wailed, throwing my fists against the ground. All fight had left me, I could do nothing but weep.
"I had to. There was no way I was leaving you there all by yourself. You wouldn't have been able to survive," he said.
"That's the point. Don't you get it? I would have preferred to die with them. How can I live knowing that everyone is dead?"
"Don't say that!"
I paused.
"Please don't ever say that again." He raised his head to me, eyes glassy with tears.
"I had to save you because you're my mate."
