This is an AU where Asami makes sure to keep track of Korra and know how she is doing during her recovery via Korra's mother. Senna tells Asami in a letter that Korra is coming to Republic City.

But Korra doesn't know that Asami was told, and they see each other at the docks.

Asami tells Korra everything, and they go back to Asami's masion. Korra tells Asami she doesn't want people to know she's back yet. She just wants to live in the shadows for a while.

Korra still joins the fight club but doesn't tell Asami. Asami finds out, though, but can't convince Korra to stop, so she says she's going to attend every match.

Asami's POV

I don't like it, but I am waiting for Korra to do her match so we can leave. She says she needs to do this. She's still struggling. I can tell. The next match was called, and Korra stepped out into the ring to face a huge guy. I betted for Korra just to play along and to not look suspicious.

She started fighting and punched the guy in the guts. It wounded him, but he punched back. She dodged a few but got hit right in the nose. The crowd booed for him fighting dirty. She fell over but caught herself and hit him in the gut again and then in the arm.

He hit her in the ribs, and the side the crowd booed again, and the guy picked Korra up before shoving her against the wall and kneed her in the chest. She fell down and couldn't get back up. He held her up, and she got in a kick, which caused him to fall she fell down too, but the guy hit her in the gut again.

The reff called it, and Korra was picked up and dragged out. I ran downstairs to check on her and saw her with a wet towel pressed against her nose. She was all bloody. I think her nose is broken. She was also bleeding on her arm from the fall, and she was covered in brusies.

I came in and fell to my knees in front of her. "Oh my god, Korra! Do they always play dirty like that?" Korra laughed and held my chin with her free hand. "Sometimes, but I'm okay. You will gain half of what you bet, and I will get all of those halfs added up."

I sighed and took the towl from her, and called. "Can I get a first aid kit, please?" A man came over with a kit opened ready for me, and I thanked him before Korra said. "You don't have to, Asami..." I stopped her before she could finish by putting my hand up and carried on cleaning her wounds.

"Korra, is this about money?" I asked, worried. "Is this about you getting to see me shirtless?" She retored, refering to the fact that she took off her shirt to check herself over. I blushed a little and looked to her nose. "Okay, it's not broken. But it's bruised and bleeding." I said before dabbing a cotten swab over it. Korra hissed and held my wrist. "Asami... I. I am really glad I have you right now." I blushed again. "Me too, Korra."

I finished cleaning her nose and plastered it. I then moved to her arm and cleaned it. "I'm really starting to think it's about you seeing my body. Look at that blush." Korra said as I checked the bruises on her abs. I smirked and touched the bruise. "Ow! You did that on purpose!" I laughed and put a cold pack against it before wrapping a badge around her waist. "You are very beautiful, Korra..." Korra smiled smuggly. "... But you are so stupid." I teased. Korra huffed at me and went to move again, but her bruises hurt more than she expected.

"See, stupid." I said laughing. Korra fake laughed back at me, which made me smile. Korra kissed my head and pushed me away playfully. "Come on. Let's go home. You need to rest." I said before picking her up and helping her walk to the door. We got our winnings and headed home in my car.

Once home, I got Korra to her room and put her in her bed slowly. "There you go, baby." I said cooing at her. Korra rolled her eyes and moved to get comfortable, but she was still in pain. "Korra? Why do you fight? Why don't you want to be public?" I asked, hoping Korra wouldn't be upset.

"I do it because I don't feel worthy to be the Avatar anymore. I don't feel strong enough. I got hurt really badly. I can't sleep. I can't think straight. I cut my hair because in my culture, hair represents pride and honour. I don't have either any more. I'm haunted by myself in a dark state. She attacks me when I'm alone. I hate everything about me now.

Before I started airbendering training, I was so excited to start helping people. To do what Aang did. But I can't do that. He only had one enemy to fight. He won by listening to his beliefs and his duty. I'm not Aang. I am reckless and stupid."

I frowned at Korra and kissed her head. "You are an amazing Avatar. You lead with your heart just like Aang did. You think rational, just like Katara. You are strong just like Toph, and you are cunning just like Sokka. But most importantly. You are your own person. Never forget that."

Korra kissed my lips and pulled me on to the bed. "Thank you, Asami. You always know what to say." I smiled and kissed her head before moving to leave the room.

Korra held my wrist and winced at the quick movement. "Stay with me? I hate sleeping. My nightmares keep getting worse." I nodded and got in on the other side of the bed and held Korra's hand. "I love you, Asami. I don't deserve you."

I shook my head. "You deserve everything." We kissed again, and I cuddled into her as much as I could without hurting her.
