In a franchise there will always be those kinds of characters that seem interesting, but you wished they had better planning to get their full potential. That seems to be the case with most Mortal Kombat characters, mainly in the Netherrealm era of games spanning from MK9 to MK11. There have been a lot of really cool and interesting characters, but thanks to the writers, they end up either sucking or becoming hated. Let's take a look at these characters starting with the first of these newcomers....
Skarlet

Starting out as a dlc character in MK9, Skarlet showed a hell of a lot of promise. She was a creature born from the flesh pits thanks to Shao Khan and Shang Tsung. She is arguably able to become the strongest fighter thanks to her blood ability. She's able to absorb the opponents blood into her skin and make herself stronger, plus with her own powerful abilities, she makes a very interesting fighter. Plus, her MK9 ladder ending states an interesting dynamic, where Skarlet is extremely loyal to Shao Khan.
Then MK11 came along and undid her interesting backstory to say she was an orphan adopted by Shao Khan who knew blood magic. Seriously? That's the better origin you thought of? I bet you they only did that to justify Skarlet's design change to be less skimpy looking, which goes against her original abilities.
Kombat Kids

The idea of the "next generation" was always a fun one to me. Depending on which parents the kids will have, you can have either parents styles or abilities. For the Kombat Kids, you have a pretty good setup, yet they're so underused. Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny and Sonya, a great combo in terms of style and personality, only for fans to lose grace when she beat A FUCKING ELDER GOD by herself. Kung Jin was interesting with his dynamic of being connected to the now Revenant Kung Lao, yet there isn't a single scene with them meeting each other. Jacqui is....seriously just a female Jax and is so damn boring. As for Takeda....well everyone actually really likes Takeda. Sucks he was in for only ONE GAME and the entire timeline was reset. Fuck you MK11 you took my boi away.
