Day of the Dawn

Chapter 5

The next morning, with three days left until the gathering, Dawnfeather could tell the clan was on edge. Scarstar has been in his den all day and the clan has a strong scent of fear. She watched as Moonlight walked to Scarstar's den, hopefully with news.

Dawnfeather called out her apprentice as the sun started to come up. "Icepaw! come here! We're are going to help Whitecloud gather some herbs!" Dawnfeather called as she saw Icepaw walk out of the den.

"This early? The sun just came out!" Ice paw moaned as she walked over to Dawnfeather.

"Yes, and don't you complain to me! You should have known you would have to get up so early! Why did you stay up so late?" Dawnfeather angrily asked.

"Er- I was going to find Skypaw!" she whinned, "I hadn't seen her since we got appointed apprentices, I got worried."

"Did you find her?" Dawnfeather asked.

"Yes, but I found her sneaking out. She didn't even know I was there!"

"Where do you think she went?"

"I don't know!"

"I'm gonna go tell Thornpelt and Sweetheart, hopefully they know. You tell WhiteCloud that we're going to leave soon."

"Okay...." Icepaw replied as she walked to the medicine cat's den.

Dawnfeather ran over to Thornpelt, Skypaw's mentor.

"Hey Thornpelt!" Dawnfeather called over.

"What?" he replied.

"Icepaw saw Skypaw sneak out of the camp late at night." Dawnfeather said as they both glanced over at Skypaw, "Do you happen to know anything about that?

"Sorry, no, but i'll talk to her. She could get in real trouble if she's doing something she isn't! Thornpelt snarled.

"Okay, i'll ask Sweetheart after me and Icepaw get back from helping Whitecloud."

"Good idea." Thornpelt said as Dawnfeather walked away.

Dawnfeather sprinted over to Icepaw and Whitecloud.

"I asked Thornbush but he didn't know anything. He said he would talk to her, but i'm not sure Skypaw will talk. After all, she was a very secretive kit...." Dawnfeather explained as the cats walked out of the camp.
