The Christmas Mermaid

Scene Eleven

{little after supper}

(Drake) "So I saw your dad, where is your mom at?"

(Both the girls look down.)

(Esmeralda) "Do you want to show him?"

(Seera grabs Drake's fin but not in an exciting way like usual. She takes him too the castle in an abandoned room.)

(Seera) "This...this is mom."

(Drake) "What happend?"

(Seera) "She is slowly dying. None of the healers under the sea seem to be able to save her. She went way to far in the Ocean one day looking for me. My sister resents me for it. It is all my fault. She got into some oil. She also resents humans that's why she's giving you a hard time. 'The humans don't care about the Ocean', she always says."

(Drake) "I'm sorry, but how are you handling it all?"

(Seera)"The way I'm expected to. Seera doesn't cry. Seera has hope. Seera doesn't get mad. Besides, it is my fault. I am mad, I'm mad at myself. How could I be mad at the humans when if I wasn't in another World, my mom wouldn't be in that bed?"

(Drake gives Seera a hug. And understands a certain dynamic between the sister's he never saw. He knows one thing he wants to do before he goes back is fix the sister's relationship and also he's going to start recycling. He never throws trash in the Ocean, but everywhere he seems to look anymore he sees trash.)
