Y/n did not have to attend any classes today because Headmage Crowley was giving you a tour of the school. By the time you were finished it was already after school. Knowing that Yuu could not handle Grim on his own, you asked Crowley if you could help supervise the students while they washed the windows. He, of course, agreed to your request.
Your walk was short and you soon caught sight of the black haired male in the cafeteria, who was currently arguing with Grim.
"I'm already exhausted from a full day of cleanin'. I can't believe we still gotta wash a hundred windows!" Grim complained as he stretches his tiny furry body with an unamused expression pinned to his face.
Yuu pinched the bridge of his nose before looking at the flaming Tanuki, "You gotta suck it up and do it. Try and learn from this experience." He encouraged.
"Indeed. You have no one but, yourself to blame Guàiwù. Your fight could have easily been extinguished had you just walked away from him." You reasoned from behind Yuu, while giving him a light pat on the head.
"Y/n!" Yuu exclaimed excitedly upon seeing you.
"Greetings friend. How are you fairing today?"
"Pretty tired from all the cleaning. Grim had tried to escape more than once so I had to drag him back." The boy replied with an exhausted sigh following his words.
"Ah... I see. I am sorry you had to deal with that child of a Guàiwù."
Yuu tilted his head with a puzzled look gracing his features. "Guàiwù?"
"It means Monster."
"Ohhh!" Happily said the boy before you.
"What's buggin' me is, Ace ain't even here yet! To make us wait, after what he did... Grrr!" The flaming weasel continued to complain.
"Perhaps his class was let out late. Some fellow students could also be holding him back in case they need help."
"Yeah! Let's wait a bit longer!" Agreed and suggested Yuu.
"Fine..." Reluctantly Grim agreed to waiting longer.
*
The three of you waited thirty minutes in silence before Grim spoke up. "... And now he's super late! I bet he up and bailed on us!"
A hand belonging to Yuu raised up to his chin with a hard look, "That's possible."
"Shall we look for him then?" You suggested to the two.
The flaming Tanuki grumbled, "Ain't no way am I doin' his punishment for him! C'mon, Y/n and Yuu! I don't care if we gotta drag him kickin' and screamin', he's washin' those windows!" He wailed as he raised a fist, or a paw, in the air, completely filled with determination.
*
Walking through the halls, the three of you said nothing until you entered a classroom. Upon the walls were detailed paintings of figures you could only assume were important to the history of this land. No Ace though. How disappointing. You made a mental note to lecture him on responsibility later. Grim didn't seem notice the classroom was void of any students.
"Hey! Ace! Get over here! Try to hide from, will ya! Huh... Maybe there's really no one here?" Answered Grim as he searched the room.
Suddenly a painting on the wall began to speak. "Oh, I wouldn't say that. I'm here."
The painting has a red shirt, black cape with a large white collar, wide top hat, and a really big nose. Almost like he was compensating for something.
This, of course, startled Grim almost making him wet himself, similar to when he met the ghosts in their dorm. "Bwaaah! That painting just talked!" He exclaimed in fright.
The painting seemed unamused by Grim's antics. "Yes, and...? Is a talking painting really such an oddity at this school? The lady in the portrait on that wall talks too. As does the gentleman in the portrait on this one. As long as a painting has a mouth, why wouldn't it be able to talk? Is that really so strange?" Explained the painting on the wall, with a slight mumble to express his slight annoyance.
Yuu was amazed. The sparkles in his eyes made you smile. 'It seems Yuu enjoys discovering the secrets of magic from this world. He reminds me of a more Xiao, but more expressive and open to things...'
Said boy then shook his head, then finally responded to the painting on the wall. "In fact, yes. Paintings don't usually talk."
"Ahem. What he means to say is, from our worlds, paintings talking are not common or possible for us. Though, the concept here is rather intriguing. Oh. Pardon me. I am Y/n Lapis. I am a new teacher here. This is my apprentice. Enma Yuuken." You lightly bowed as you explained your reactions and introduced yourself. "The Guàiwù that has blue fire is Grim."
The painting seemed less annoyed and now more accepting. Then again, he is a painting with a set expression, so it was a little hard to tell. "Well, your "usual" and my "usual" clearly differ. Shall we agree to disagree on the matter? Now, you seem to be searching for someone."
"We're lookin' for this guy called Ace. He's got messy hair and a heart drawn on his face." Grim described to the painting, who you have mentally named Dà bízi.
"Ah, I know the one. A new student, I believe? Today was his first day at school. I think he went back to his dorm a while ago." It monotonously said to us. This information only made the flaming butt weasel more frustrated.
"Myaaah! So it's true! He's tryin' to ditch us!", He growled to himself before looking up at the painting on the wall, "Do you know which way he went?" Grim grumbled at it.
"The door to the dorms is in the eastern building." The painting informed us.
"Let's chase after him, guys!" The fire cat weasel thingy exclaimed as he rushed out of the classroom.
Bowing your head, Yuu copying you, you thanked the painting, "Thank you for your help."
"My pleasure. Come back any time." It said with a smile as you and your companion, Yuu, exited the room.
