AARON PITNEY-Dating is Hard
Even while he was super busy, he could not stop thinking about Tangie Bainbridge. They had lunch several times and were getting to know each other well. She was never married, had a teenage son, and was a workaholic like him.
Even though he was adamant about starting a relationship if that is where things were heading was not going to stop it.
Soon as he had a free moment, he called her.
"Hey Tangie, if you're free, I thought we could go on a real date."
"Oh...I'm with my son, he has a performance. Going to be tied up all night."
"Okay, that's fine." Although he was beginning to think neither had time for a relationship right now. They could not even have a simple date.
TANGIE BAINBRIDGE-No Time to Date
She did not have to be at Xavier's performance, but she was not ready for that date with Aaron like she thought she was. Neither had time to date, so it was not just her. Now her son was working on recording an album and she wanted to be there every step of the way.
Tonight Xavier performed at her sorority's concert for their youth program. He was the opening for a boy's band the sorority enticed to perform. This was one of his biggest performances. Xavier was well-known in Midtown, but opening for already-established artists put his name out there,
Tony and Justin sat with her in the packed audience.
"Ms. Bainbridge, Xavier is going to make us all famous," Justin said.
"Glad you see it that way. I just want my son to be happy doing something he loves...and he is good at."
"Oh, he's a natural."
There were maybe five thousand people in the audience, mostly young pre-teens and teens, with a few adults. Soon as her son hit the stage and sang his first note, the girls were screaming. He sang Usher's My Way. He was such a performer, moving across the stage with ease, and even interacting with the fans.
Then he sang his signature song, Bobby Brown's My Perogative which was her favorite song growing up. She probably played it to him a thousand times before he was ten and then he would sing it all the time, word for word, all day long. He tore that stage up as if it was his song. He even ripped off his shirt and pulled up a girl on stage to dance with him. Other girls were screaming and crying, trying to rush up on stage to dance with him as well.
They had some security, but not nearly enough. Two other girls ran on the stage. Xavier motioned for them to stop, then interrupted the song.
"Listen, a'ight, Imma finish, but I need everyone back in their seats so we can all enjoy the show. A'ight, can you do that for me?"
The girls obeyed and just like that, they made their way back to their seats. Tangie grinned, her son was like the pied piper.
"Damn Tangie, how did he do that?" Justin asked. "That was an MJ or Prince move."
Tony laughed. "We're not going to live this down."
She would do anything to keep her son on that stage, even if it meant not dating the first guy that showed interest in her since Xavier's father.
ELAYNE VAN RUSSELL-Not Mature Enough
"No!"
"Come on Elayne, this is business," Justin said.
"Business? A party?"
"It's an industry party. Any time someone in the industry throws these things and you get an invite you have to shake some hands."
