In the pod, Keith got the shotgun for the ride back. He was heavily proud of himself, and Lance pouted as I patched up his forehead.
"You know, I've never seen you laugh like that, Vrokta." Hunk began, "Well, it's only been, like, a week, but still. You've always seemed so... sad, and angry."
I glanced at him, finishing up with Lance's forehead, "Yeah well, how would you feel if your partner just killed himself and you were stuck in a ship, with no way of getting home, under the command of a person who hates you and your people more than anything?"
"Probably pretty sad... and angry."
I sighed, but gave him a small smile, "What, did my laughing scare you?"
"What? No!" He quickly said, "I was just shocked, that's all."
"By the way, what were you doing at the mall, Hunk? Were you with Keith the whole time?" I asked.
"No." He replied, "I was actually in the food court, teaching this guy how to cook!"
I sweat dropped, "Of course you were."
"Wow, didn't see that coming." Lance commented.
"What about you?" Hunk asked.
Pidge quickly pulled out what they'd bought, "Lance and Vrokta found this Earth store while I went to go to the washroom." He began, and Lance and I nodded as we realized that's where he'd been, "And we saw this! Crazy cool, right?"
"Yeah! That game is awesome!"
"And so," He continued excitedly, "Since we didn't have any money, we went to a fountain nearby and fished out all of the coins until we had enough to pay for it. And then the guy gave us a free cow!"
"Now that I think of it, super crazy that he had all that stuff in there. More than one of each thing, too." Lance mumbled.
"You're right." I put my fingers on my chin, "Maybe... all those people we thought were crazy for saying they saw UFO's, or even the tales about Bigfoot and that, were actually true. They were aliens scavenging Earth in their spare time, grabbing things and running off."
"But how did they leave the atmosphere undetected by our satellites?" Pidge asked.
I shrugged, "I'm not very smart, but if one man and his people can conquer a vast portion of the galaxy with their technology, then there's no way a couple aliens couldn't find a way to get past us without being put as anything other than 'myth' and 'conspiracy'."
"You're right." Pidge sighed, looking down at the game in his lap, "You're half alien too, and you were raised on Earth and left without being noticed."
I hummed in agreement, "They've always been around."
"We're here everyone!" Coran yelled, his voice blasting through the intercom and disturbing the peace.
Great. I can finally get out of this pod and actually see Pidge's face when I talk to him. Kaltenecker has been blocking our view of each other this entire time.

Following Coran, still in his great disguise, back to the main control room, I remembered Lance was going to tell me something before that Earth merch store owner interrupted us. I stopped and turned, walking up to him as he was petting Kaltenecker at the back of the group.
"Hey, Lance?"
"Yeah?"
I cleared my throat, "What were you going to say earlier? About Pidge? Something about him being...?"
"Oh, right." He smiled lightly, turning back to Kaltenecker, "Don't feel so bad about it, I had no idea until Pidge told me."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Uh... told you what?"
"That she's a girl. Pidge is actually a girl. She just cut her hair after what happened to her dad and brother and then got into the Garrison early using a fake name and age. I've offered to call her by her real name, but she says she actually doesn't mind going by Pidge. Probably gonna call her that forever now."
My stomach was in shambles. My throat was dry.
"What, uh," I hesitated, knees weak, "What happened to... her, brother and dad?"
"They were the two guys on that mission with Shiro, to Kerberos. You know, the Holt's?"
I stopped, staring after him and the cow as he kept on walking. Hunk said something, distracting him, and he forgot to look back at me. No one saw this horrified expression of mine, and I was glad. Only for a moment, though. That gladness that no one saw in me sizzled away in an instant when they turned around the corner, and the noise from their chatter faded with them.
Pidge... Pidge doesn't just look like Kate, nor does Pidge just happen to like some of the things she liked. It wasn't a coincidence, I wasn't going crazy. I didn't think about her too much. It's because it really was her all along.
