We got through to the Komar from below. Weaving through hundreds of broken fighter jet wings floating around, we managed to get through unharmed. We let the hand held jet packs take us up above, and then let go, flying them into the pillars lining the room, cutting off their power source and making their new weapon useless for the time being.
One of the druids went down with one of the ships, and we landed with our weapons ready on a floating level, directly across from Hagar's center stage.
"Attack!" She roared, voice cracking and hoarse.
The banging from Voltron's fight against Zarkon and his new weapon echoed around us as we faced the druids head on. We split into two groups, Kolivan and Allura faced one druid and Antok and I took the other on a slightly lower level. Hagar kept trying to fix what we'd damaged on the side as Zarkon took charge in the fight. I could still hear them, just enough, through the comp. Their grunts and battle cries - or were those all mine and Antok's?
The druids moved quickly and seemed to have thin bodies. They could teleport at a moments notice, and their large cloaks made it harder to land a significant hit. Antok was flipping around like he didn't weigh anything, even though he was bigger than myself and Kolivan combined.
He took the front and I did my best to stay on its back. Dodging and taking minimal risks on the offensive. Their magic was more than our specially designed bullet proof vests might be able to take.
Antok fired his weapon and the druid in front of him dodged, but the blade kept spinning all the way to the other platform, past Allura and smacking the other druid in the face, taking half its mask off. I charged the druid while it was distracted looking after it's brethren, and his focus came entirely to me. I was smaller than Antok, and fast on my feet. I lept side to side and stabbed the face, slashing at the chest. There had to be something at its centre, just like all other beings. A heart, a soul, some kind of power source. I only scarred it, though, and it took the first chance it got to ram me in the diaphragm. I coughed, rolling on the ground and slipping over the side of the platform. I groaned, gasping as I pulled myself together, clinging to the edge. Antok yelled, but I wasn't sure if he was attacking or in pain. I clenched my teeth as I pulled myself up. Crying out, my arms burning, my heart pounding with adrenaline, I lurched over the edge and grabbed my sword. The druid was turned away from me to Antok, and I rolled my sword in my wrist, feeling its activated power in my bones. I shoved the blade right through its center. It gagged and shivered, and then dispersed into nothing.
When it faded, it showed me what it left behind. Antok stumbled, a ten inch hole through his stomach. The magic blast burnt right through him, he wasn't even bleeding.
I deactivated my sword and put it back in it's sheath, sprinting towards him. I caught him just as he went to fall over the edge and pulled him down with me to the ground.
"Antok! Antok!"
He coughed, swallowing hard, "You make a fine soldier, Vrokta."
"I-I don't understand-."
Through the mask, I remembered his face. I could see it, I could see his crooked smile, "Don't ever let anyone tell you you're not enough. You're perfect."
I shook my head, my lips moved but the words got stuck in my throat. Antok died in my arms and I inhaled as he exhaled. My eyes clenched shut and I lowered my head, whispering goodbye. There wasn't time do to anything more.
Kolivan leaped down beside me, and I glanced up from Antok's dead body to him.
"Allura has taken on the Witch. It's time to go."
I stood, pulling up Antok with me. I sniffed back my tears and focused on the ache in my jaw. I grunted as I took on the larger man's weight, holding him on my back. I gasped, my chest throbbed and seared, but I pushed the worry in my mind down and told myself to feel it. It doesn't hurt, because it's far more tolerable than the constant screaming in my mind.
"Vrokta-"
"I'm taking him home!" I insisted, voice firm and clear.
He didn't argue, calling to Allura to regroup, we headed for our fastest exit. The power of Zarkon's ship began to return and Coran came in closer so we could get out of the way and prepare for a wormhole jump with Voltron to get to safety. I stumbled inside, Kolivan quickly came to help me, taking half of Antok's weight. Allura told us where we could lay him to rest for the time being, and we quickly walked off as she checked in with Coran, sprinting to the main room so she could activate our escape.
Once Antok was in a bed and covered with a sheet, the pain from the hit I took started to become too much. Lifting Antok's weight probably made it worse, but I tried to convince myself it was just another deep bruise as we walked back to meet the incoming paladins.
Keith was saying there was something wrong with Shiro, meaning once all the lions were in their hangars, everyone was going to converge at the black lions hangar. Kolivan and I got there just as Keith sprinted past and into the lion. They were all clearly exhausted, but they ran and yelled for their leader anyway. I waited outside with Kolivan, hand on my stomach. The pain was getting worse, spreading up to my throat. I kept hunching over even though I was trying to stand straight.
They came out together, faces sunken.
"Where is Shiro?" Kolivan asked.
"He's gone." Keith replied, and then he ran his hands through his hair, groaning, "Dammit!"
"There has to be an explanation for this." Pidge insisted, worried. She glanced at me and I blinked, my vision was fading at the edges.
"Yeah! M-maybe Zarkon used some magic again and kidnapped him or something!"
"Lance." Hunk began softly, rubbing the back of his neck, "Maybe not a good time for ideas."
The blue paladin's shoulders slumped, and I coughed, hunching over as I lost control of my body. The coughing didn't stop, and every single force from it sent shock waves up and down my back.
"Vrokta!"
My legs gave out and I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or closed anymore. Was I seizing? Had I fainted?
"Vrokta!"
I opened my eyes, struggling. Someone was holding me. My mouth was soaked with the thick taste of blood.
"Kate?" I whispered, eyes watering.
"Yeah." She breathed in reply, "It-it's me."
I sobbed lightly. I wanted to touch her, but my arms wouldn't move. Nothing would, "Why did you leave me?" I begged for an answer, "I would have... gone with you..."
Her eyes widened, and then my head rolled back.
