Y/n pov:

After my potion making class, I started making my way to miss Thornhill's class when Ella ran up to me, saying she and Thing had lost trace of Rowan.

"It's okay Ella, you did your best. Now, can you keep watch on Weems for me for the rest of the day?" Ella mewed at me before running off again.

I took my seat at the same table as Xavier, leaving the seat in the middle of us open. He was drawing a spider in his journal.

Wednesday was talking to Thing angrily when Bianca approached her, making a rude comment. I rolled my eyes.

"There's an open spot at our table," Xavier offered to Wednesday.

When she sat down he animated the spider he drew and it crawled out of the journal.

"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, mr. Thorpe."

"Admit it, you're a little impressed." He looked at me as he said that and not Wednesday. I just sat back into my chair, he frowned a bit.

Then Wednesday slapped the spider and it disappeared into a puff of charcoal, I smirked at that. The class erupted into laughter.

"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivorous plants. now, who can tell us the name of this beauty?"

Bianca raised her hand but Wednesday spoke up. "Dendrophylax Lindenii."

"Otherwise known as the ghost orchid."

"First discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1854," Wednesday shot back.

"Very good Wednesday. Looks like you may have competition for first chair Bianca."

I just sat and watched as Wednesday named the different qualities of the plant perfectly. Was there anything she didn't know or wasn't good at? Butterflies grew in my stomach, I fidgeted with the ring on my thumb to calm down.

For the rest of the class, Thornhill had placed a young ghost orchid on each table and we wrote down the different things we saw and then fed it. The whole time, I could feel Xavier's eyes burning into me. I just ignored it.

When class was over, Wednesday approached me. "Do you want to go back into the woods with me later?"

"Um, sure. What for?" She was a little close and I took a small step back, fighting to keep a blush from forming on my cheeks.

She started walking and I followed. "I want to see if I can find more evidence while there's still daylight. We just need to go and see if Enid can cover for us."

Enid was outside painting the canoe with the rest of our dorm.

"Me and y/n have to get back to the woods, but Weems has been watching us like a vulture circling a carcass."

I nodded and looked back at the school.

"And you want me to cover so that you can return to the scene of a crime that didn't happen?"

I pressed my lips together to keep from saying something rude back.

"I have beekeeping club this afternoon. I need you as decoy."

"Sorry, two strikes. I'm busy and bees totally creep me out. Why don't you ask Thing? Wait, you can't because he's mad at you."

I looked over at Wednesday, she was a little mean to him earlier.

"Why's he mad? He's the one who screwed up with Rowan."

I mentally face palmed.

"All I know is that we spent an hour giving each other manis, and he really opened up. He feels like you don't respect him as a person."
