“What do you mean more personal?”I ask. I look at the Volturi hoping that one of them would give a hint at what Alice was withholding. Demitri looked amused, but all the others had straight faces, revealing nothing.
“Aro is intrigued by your potential power. He’s never encountered anyone who’s thoughts he couldn’t read.” Alice continues.
“He wishes to know what you thought of him,” Jane adds.
“Why does he care so much about what I think of him? I’m just a weak, useless human. I’m lunch to him!” I said, almost shouting at the end, the confusion and frustration bubbling to the surface.
“Now Bella, surely you know that’s not true. The Volturi are a busy coven. Aro wouldn’t send the high guard to check on,” Jane paused to do air quotes, “a weak, useless human. Clearly he doesn’t think that.”
I thought over what Jane said. I know she knows what Alice has yet to say. I also know that she’s right. Aro would never send 4 of the top guards to check on me. But, why? Why me?
“What’s so special about me then?” I ask, the frustration evident in my voice. I don’t like being in the dark and being treated like a child. Edward always said it was to protect me and that it was for “my own safety”. If he cared at all for my safety he wouldn’t have left me. Wouldn’t have run away from me. I no longer love Edward Cullen.
“Alice please continue,” Carlisle said. Carlisle always seemed to be able to read my thoughts. As if adopting Edward’s powers but only for me.
“Bella, you’ll always be a sister to me okay? Always.” Alice said. She appeared in front of me and hugged me tightly.
“And you’ll always be a daughter to us,” Esme added, gesturing to Carlisle and herself.
“You guys will always be my family too. Now what on Earth is going on here?”
“Bella, you and Aro are-” a growl ripped through the room as Alec released Edward. They wanted him to hear this.
“Alice, don’t tell her!” He snarled.
“Shut your mouth for once in your life Edward Cullen,” I snapped. He looked up at me like a wounded puppy.
“For the love of God let's be done with this! Bella, you and Aro are mates!” Rosalie shouted.
