Numb

The city hall was packed with security, paprazzi and reporters. The cameras only started to flash when you walked on the stage with Peter. You stood at the side of him while he went to podium to read out the speech. He breathed in shakily, took a minute to prepare for what he was about to say and said it.
''A few weeks ago, Tony Stark was lost during an attack on the Avengers tower. This I understand has shaken the public but I assure all of you, the Avengers are growing stronger. We are still protecting and learning about this new target. It is now a target for us Avengers. We will avenge Mr. Stark and any victims of the plague. Currently the plague, as far as we know the plague is genetic. We are doing our best to create facilities for any victims or symptoms. Please stay calm during this process. We are getting a cure as fast as we can. Thank you.'' And with that, Peter walked off the stage with you and security following behind. You heard disgusting comments about the avengers and how their efforts to protect aren't working and many other nasty comments that would piss off someone. You and Peter got escorted to the car and brought back to the compound almost as if it was natural to have to do speeches like that and be unbothered.

When you got back you wasted no time to get to Bruce and Scott. When you went to the labs you saw cassie sitting on a bench, with Scott and Bruce talking. Cassie looked dreary and tired. Barely any life left.
''Y/n, how was it?'' Bruce asked when he saw you.
''It was fine, how is she?'' You ask looking to Scott then to Cassie.
''Bruce has no idea if its the plague. We don't know anything about it and it doesn't look like we will.'' Scott says looking at you and trying to be quiet for Cassie.
''We are just taking necassary percausions in this situation. We are putting Cassie in a coma to hopefully slow down the process if it is in fact the plague. It will essentially be a dream but hyper realistic. She will not know. She will go through her days like she normally does in her mind. We will keep her securly contained and scott can visit but can't wake her up till we have a cure.'' Bruce said to Scott and you trying to be quiet.
''And what if it's not the plague? Your wasting my little girls life as a lab experiment.'' Scott says tearing up with anger.
''Scott calm down.'' You say trying to ease him.
''Scott, she won't be aging in this coma. And it means she hopefully will not turn into one of those 'monsters'.'' Bruce says and Scott puts his head into Bruces shoulder crying as Cassie sits stroking her dolls hair and swinging her legs. ''We will do it tonight when she goes to sleep.'' Bruce says looking to you. Seeing a man like Scott with such humour and a postitive outlook break down breaks you but you have to stay still and dry. You nod your head and walk out to the foyer of the compound.

You step out to catch some air to see steve and Bucky doing the same. They turn to look at you from their conversation. You walk over and look into steves eyes. He's worried, you can tell.
''Everything okay?'' You ask even though that was a stupid question.
''The Avengers have fought all the villans and evil and Tony had never died. None of us really did. This is a whole new level of dangerous that we know nothing about and have no advantage agaisnt.'' Steve said looking to Bucky then to you.
''And we can't afford to loose any team members.'' Bucky said to you in an extremely serious tone.
Before you could answer you heard shouting and glass breaking and metal falling from the lab. What you saw next no one was prepared for. You saw Bruce run to outside the lab door and shout at Scott to get out of the lab. You saw something rumble under the table then realised. You looked to Bruce and put your hand to your mouth. Bucky ran to a button on the wall and held it down.
''Every Avenger get to the lab and suit up. We have one of them here. Hurry, it's Cassie.'' Bucky said shaking. In a matter of 2 mintues all the Avengers were standing on the other side of the open door in silence staring at Scott as he was kneeling to the ground crying in hysterics as the ''monster'' was writhing on the ground screaming.
Fury shouted to Bruce asking how long it will take for the monster to completely form and if we have any time to save her.
''I don't know but its been a few mintues. We have to lock down the room but he won't get out of the room.'' Bruce said to Fury and to the other Avengers.
''We have to get him out of there.'' Natasha said looking to steve. Without saying anything, Thor walked to the broken man and gently put a hand on his shoulder.
''We have to go Scott.'' Thor said lifting Scotts arm. Scott snatched his arm away from Thor.
''I can't leave my daughter to die.'' Scott said punching the ground.
''That's not your daughter Scott.'' Sam said stepping up to the other side of scott.
''She will always be my little girl.'' Scott said in a croaky voice.
Thor looked to steve and steve nodded for Thor to force Scott out of the room.
Thor grabbed Scott and dragged him out of the room while Scott cried. You were froze looking at Cassie no longer cassie on the floor. You looked around to see everyone froze too. Tears running down peoples face and some with no emotion. You locked eyes with Wanda as a tear ran down her cheek. Bruce looked over to Fury to close the door and Fury nodded.
As the doors were closing, Scott ran into the room. The doors were slowly going up from the floor and down from the roof almost like a terrible metaphor for eating up life. Steve almost threw himself into the room but Bucky grabbed his arm and shook his head and Steve turned to Scott. Scott turned around to the team with tears falling but no shaking left. He smiled and said,
''Cassie was what I did all this for, I can't live without her. No dad should ever have to be at his daughters funeral.'' Scott looked at everyone but locked eyes at Clint, being the only father apart from him. Clints chin quivered as he smiled and nodded to Scott with tiny drops falling to the floor.
Scott turned smiled at everyone and walked back to his child.
The doors closed.
Everyone stood still for 8 minutes until they heard an alien cry and not screaming, but a groaning and a small sentence that no one could make out from the other side of the door.
Wanda ran back to her room with vision trying to follow behind. Steve ran his hands through his hair and wiped the tears away from his under eyes. You looked down to your feet to see a doll with red hair. You remembered where you had last saw it, in the hands of a little girl on a counter. You beant down and picked it up. You walked slowly out of the crowd of sadness and walked to your room.

What had happened to the happy Avengers in the tower. You don't think you will ever see that side of anyone. You sat at the bottom your bed, your back leaning agaisnt it. You were still in your clothes from the speech. Now you had to find these powers that you supposedly have and put them to use. And quickly because if any of this continues, the human race and every other one will be extinct. And now none of the Avengers were safe from the plague, whether it be turning into a monster or being killed. You had to find Peter. He can help with this pain. He can numb it.

You went to the 3rd door down to see Peter getting out of his suit, half naked. You would have definitely done something about the feeling you should have been getting from the view but currently you didn't feel anything but traumatised. Peter turned round and looked at you, his eyes red and bloodshot. You walked over to his bed and got in, not saying a word. He got his pjs on and got in which wasn't the plan for the rest of the night but it seemed to be what was happening for everyone. Taking the night off. You just lay your head on his chest and cried into his shirt. He grabbed you with both arms and cried with you but less of a breakdown. Almost like he was numbing slightly.

''Thats it?'' You said into his chest, ''They are never coming back.'' You said to him not expecting a reply. You gradually fell asleep together until the morning but it wasn't romantic it was painful nothing nice or postitive could come out of this.
