The last one standing | Peter Parker x reader

U.S.

Even though the thrill of kissing Peter gave you so much joy, it came with a price. The jet had taken off around 5 hours ago and it was going to take around 7 more hours to get to the U.S. You were thinking about what you saw in your past timeline, with Peter dying while you couldn't save him. But it hurt so much more to think about it. No way were you going to let that happen. You looked around and saw Steve working while Bucky and Natasha were sleeping on eachothers shoulders.
''How does it feel to be third wheel?'' You say to Steve quietly enough so you don't wake the pair.
''Horrible, I mean they aren't jumping onto planes that are taking off to kiss eachother, but they are still corny when they want to be.'' He replys.

You had slept all the way through to the plane landing and Natasha woke you up to grab your stuff and a weapon. You woke up to a fowl smell and when you stepped out of that plane, you realised why. The streets were completely abandoned and it was flooded with pieces of body parts from the mutation victims.
''Sam, do you copy?'' Steve says into his wrist band.
''I copy Cap.'' You hear the wrist band say back.
''We are coming your way now.'' Steve said while bringing up Sam's location on his wrist. It showed only a mile or two away from you was where they were staying.

You and Natasha lead the way through the streets. You had to step on bones and skulls but not only that. Some faces had been half eaten. You could smell the fresh blood and flesh that had been ripped apart. Wait. Fresh?
''Steve, you said this place was deserted from the mutations right?'' You ask.
''Yeah, why?'' He says back.
''This blood and the some of the body parts seem freshly ripped apart.'' You say.
Steve looks down to his boots which are covered in blood and the bottom of them.
''Hey, Sam? East quad is definitely deserted?'' Steve says.
''It should be, from where we saw it there had been nothing there for months on end.'' Sam replies.
''So why is there fresh blood?'' Steve asks.
Sam goes quiet and doesn't reply.
''Run.'' Sam says.
Bucky, Natasha and you turn to steve in panic. You all run back to the jet instantly, your heart beating out of your chest. You close the back and Steve hops on one of the four wheeled quad bike. You get on the back of it and he hands you an assault rifle. Natasha and Bucky get on the other one, Natasha driving and Bucky on weapons. Natasha turns to you and nods as you punch the button for the back to open back up.

The driving was bumpy as the streets were littered but so far there had been no mutations attack you. You tie yourself to the back of the quad to make sure you don't fall off and Bucky does the same. Bucky turns to look at you but grabs his cross bow and shoots. You duck, thinking he was trying to hit you but see a dead body of a mutation getting farther away as Steve keeps driving. You nod to Bucky and hold your weapon in ready position. You turn to face where you are headed.
The abandond house rang loud with a shriek. You turn to see what you heard. As you do, a mutation jumps from a window. You aim and shoot.
About twenty were at your side running after you. Bucky also has around twenty on him.
''Bucky! Divert them to behind you!''  You shout while grabbing the machine gun from the weaponary bag.

You check the ammo and see it's full. When Bucky and Natasha divert their pack to behind them. You turn to Steve.
''Steve! Drive in the centre!''
Steve follows what you say and Natasha and Bucky make it ahead of you so you aren't worrying about crossfire.
You hold the machine gun at your waist and start to fire. The bullets hit the monsters and you hear their screams as you drive away, leaving a trail of them behind.
You sigh in relief and turn back ahead.
''That was easier than expected.'' Bucky says.
''Yeah, it was, wasn't it?'' You say.
Steve and Natasha look to eachother and keep driving.
You are now nearing close to Sam, Rhodey and Thor. You realised why on earth could Thor, Sam and rhodey not just fly away since they each have that ability. You develop a conversation in your head trying to explain it but before you could reach a conclusion, you arrvied at the builing. It was completely wrecked. There must have been an infiltration or a mutation on the inside, either way, it left the building in shambles and you wondered how you would find the three men.
You all hop of the quads and you throw Natasha the double pistols. You take a shotgun.
''Second floor.'' Steve says while walking into the abandond building, with the door being completely destroyed.
''Whatever happened here must have taken all the equipment and information that they were gathering.'' Natasha says.
''Most of it was just numbers of mutations, and that isn't going to give us much help anyway.'' Steve says walking to the stairs.
