"WE'VE FOUND SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO ADOPT IZUKU..."
Oh.
...
Oh.
Izuku's breath stopped in his throat.
His legs shook.
His heart soared and thudded in his chest in refusals and denials. Everything shook, and Izuku couldn't tell if he was shaking, or his surroundings.
The rest of the conversation become background noise, only the sound of a long tranquil ringing in his ears.
His vision blurred, with tears or daze, even he didn't know, maybe both. His eyes slightly searched the empty hallway. Slow, extremely slow steps were taken, taken away from the door as he walked backwards from the haunting words.
And for a second, Izuku wondered what he could've done wrong.
Was it because he was too blunt? Too guarded? Too isolated? Too cold? Too creepy? Did they check his records and found out that he used to be quirkless? That he used to be useless?
No. Stop. That wasn't true. It wasn't, it wasn't.
Right?
Right...!
Why was he surprised? He already knew this would happen, since day one. He already knew that his stay was only temporary. Why was he so surprised?!
A long, deep shaky breath.
A smile.
A step back.
Another step back.
And so, with just that, Izuku left the building.
He swiped his U.A. ingress card, provided by Nezu, on the enormous entrance, and left U.A. Well, it's not like he would be able to use it again in the future. A bitter taste flickered on his tongue at the thought.
He needed some time alone.
He really needed some time alone.
. . .
The trees shifted left and right and called out to him, whispering undertones of soothing and soft welcomes and questions.
Izuku stood next to a rather large and wide tree, before his legs gave up and he tumbled, laying against the tree.
