. . .

"I'M BEING ADOPTED...!"

Izuku smiled widely, staring at the adoption paper in his lap.

"...That's uh, great!" The greenette looked up from the paper, glancing through his eyelashes as he gave a quick close-lipped smile.

Aizawa raised his eyebrow at the reaction, and Hizashi gave a concerned frown. Hitoshi's excited smile slightly drooped.

Izuku hid a grimaced at the concern, his heart growing heavy.

They're so kind. So nice. So genuine.

Why was he upset after they went through the trouble to finding a whole family to adopt him?

What right did he have to feel like this?

He looked at Hitoshi from the corner of his eyes whose smile dropped by the every second the greenette didn't speak.

Probably the last time you'll be sitting down with them and you're already upsetting them. Aren't you just great.

His smile twitched down before he forced it into an awkward curve. "I guess I...should go pack my stuff."

Taking the envelope with one hand, the greenette stood up slowly, gazing at his half empty cup of tea.

He couldn't look them in the eye. Surely, he would start crying like the crybaby he was.

Izuku loved them.

They were like family.

They were family.

He's gotten attached; he admits it.

So dumb. So, so dumb.

He should've distanced himself the moment that strange feeling of joy came to him. He's so dumb. So stupid.

"Izuku are yo–"

"Thank you..." He interrupted abruptly, that stupid stupid concerned voice only making it sting. Like a sharp i̶n̶t̶e̶n̶d̶e̶d̶ cut to his skin.

Like it was simply always supposed to be like that, like it was simply supposed to hurt from the very beginning. Like there was no meaning to his entire journey with them other than this harsh goodbye.

Tears created at the corner of his eyes, and his gut wrenched as he bowed, an attempt to hide his tears, and maybe as a final goodbye. "...for everything."
