Ruby's povMy shift at the cafe has finally finished. I quickly dry my hands and then lock the doors before I hear my phone ring.
I press answer without looking at the caller ID knowing it's going to be my best friend, Sophie.
"Hey Soph, do you mind if I can call you back in one minute I'm just finishing my shift," I ask trying not to sound rude.
"Of course, talk soon," my best friend replies before hanging up.
Me and Sophie met when I was in the hospital, she was there for a broken leg but I was there for my daily check-up. I saw her stuck in a jigsaw in the waiting room, me being the overly confident 11-year-old I went over and helped, since then we stayed in contact and became close.
I lock up the doors to the small coffee shop before starting the long walk back home. It's also winter now so it's darker much quicker but also very cold. I put in my AirPods and start playing some music, I love music and I see it as an escape from the real world.
The depressing walk home only takes around half an hour but is truly rewarding when I enter the heat of my living room.
As soon as I walk in, I take off my coat and shoes just for them to be replaced with a fluffy jumper and socks. Jumping on the sofa, I turn on the telly and put on Manchester City vs Manchester United women's team. I love watching luce play but deep down it hurts.
I internally groan when I remember to call Sophie. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but my social battery has been drained today.
The phone rings a few times before I hear soph.
"Heyy, I was wondering when you would call. About to send a search party," she exclaims. I do wonder how she always has so much energy."Yeah sorry I just got a bit distracted" I sigh. "So what does my best friend need from me at 7 o'clock at night," I say sarcastically but with a hint of curiosity.
"Well if I'm really your best friend then you will come to a work event with me tomorrow at 6," Sophie practically begs me, knowing how much I hate social gatherings.
Too tired to have an argument I groan before replying "where, who with and how are we getting there?"
"Wellll it's in Manchester" great "a bunch of semi-important people will be there and we are getting the train"
"What's the point of it? Is it like the ones we've been to in the past where a bunch of boring people make a speech and make us donate money?" if I'm being honest with you I don't understand Sophie's job other than the fact she works with a charity so I am often dragged to events with her. Usually, they give you food and drinks, then a bunch of boring people will stand on a stage and talk about a charity they want to raise money for, everyone will clap and then you go home. Just my cup of tea.
"Exactly that," Sophie replies. "I'll talk to you about it tomorrow but until then love you bye-bye."
"Yeah, whatever. Bye, soph." I say before hanging up and groaning. Sophie never fails to inspire me, I mean she is 4 years older than me, but still being 20 and having a job as good as hers is an accomplishment. And here I am with a silly little waitressing job.
The game finished with Manchester City winning 4-0 and Lucy scoring a header. God, I miss her. Before I can make myself upset, I go upstairs and fall asleep in the same clothes I was wearing earlier. I am knackered.
Hope everyone is enjoying so far
Song forget to leave feedback
Also Manchester derby tomorrow, score predictions?
