DARK RED
"Why I feel this way, I don't know baby"

THE only sound that could be heard in the almost silent room was the sound of pencils scribbling on paper. Arabella's nerves calmed as she finished the last question on her exam. The questions were mostly the basic herbology or anatomy topics they had learnt in class in the earlier year.
Layla sat her exam quietly beside her. Arabella had always hoped deep in her heart that her and Layla would stay friends after they had graduated; maybe they would even get a summer job together. That was possible now that she wasn't stuck with her parents another summer.
The time to finish the exam came and Arabella found herself soon lying on her bed, contemplating her near future.
"We could get jobs as lifeguards. You know I look great in a swim suit" Layla spoke to her, lying parallel to her.
"Yeah I guess, it just doesn't seem like a good fit."
The two were so stressed from packing up their dorm and exams that they had barely noticed how time had flew and their graduation would be in a few days.
It wouldn't feel the same without her parents there. As much as she loathed them, everyone else would have their parents and their big families supporting them in the crowds while all Arabella would have was herself. Maybe that was all she needed.
To distract her mind from her parents, she decided dress shopping in Jericho with Enid, Layla and Wednesday would be a good idea; although Wednesday didn't seem too enthusiastic about it.
The group of four made their way to one of the most expensive shops in Jericho and talked to the shop owners.
The dresses looked like they were from the fairytales that Arabella read when she was younger. All of the brightly coloured ones stuck out to Enid and Layla, whilst the darker ones stuck out to Wednesday and Arabella.
One specific long black one caught her eye. It went just below her shoulders, and had a slit at the bottom of the dress that went all the way up to her mid thigh.
She prayed as she pulled out the price tag and let out an audible sigh. It was affordable. The girls huddled around the counter and paid for the dress. Layla, being the sweet friend she is agreed to take the dress back to the dorm with the others while she went to one of the bars in town.
Arabella got weird looks and small comments from passers about her being a freak but she didn't really mind. It was all apart of the Jericho experience.
She found a popular bar down the corner from Weathervane cafe. It was full of people of all ages; she didn't really mind as long as she didn't have another run in with Sheriff Galpin and his kid.
She found a small empty stool around the main part of the bar. The loud music and the drinks numbed away her feelings.
A bartender slid an expensive alcoholic drink toward Arabella and smiled politely.
"Oh uh I didn't order this." Arabella spoke to him.
"That lady over there ordered it for you"
Arabella turned around and was surprised to see Morticia sitting in a booth alone.
They met eye contact and Arabella saw it as an invitation. She soon joined her at that booth, and the two started drinking and laughing at jokes as if they had known each other their whole lives.
Arabella leant in closer as the woman who had been stuck in her head for months finished up with another joke.
She could smell the different types of alcohol on her breath. The two paused for a second, letting themselves sink into the moment. It was as if the loud and music and the voices surrounding her gave her a much needed courage.
Arabella felt as if her lungs weren't working, and the room was closing in on her. Her heart was beating so fast she thought it would explode. She could almost taste the metallic sweat that was dripping down her forehead and collecting in her underarms.
As if Morticia could read her thoughts, she learnt into and pressed her lips against Arabella's. Arabella was met with a short surprise but soon melted into it.
Maybe graduation wouldn't be so bad after all.
