DARK RED

"Only you, my girl, only you babe"

ARABELLA let out a rounded laugh. Her dress choice added to her happiness; it was as if it was perfectly tailored to the weather. Here, she had her friends, her peer parents, and her graduation gown; a littler version of her would've killed to be in her spot. But there was only one thing on her mind.

She stuffed her face with another piece of whatever fancy meat they were serving here as she was again, reminded that she was alone here. Yeah, she had Layla, but she had her parents. Even Enid was here, coming along just for her support.

Arabella would have to make it through the night, and then she could be back in her warm cozy bed without disruption. They had already called out everyone's name to receive their diplomas and awards. She respectfully paused her inner conversation as she saw Principal Weems walk up to the microphone that was awaiting her on stage.

"Good afternoon students, teacher, and parents. As the night is nearing an end, I would like to congratulate this year's graduating class. I would also like to shout out to all the supportive parents. You must all be proud to see everything this year's graduating class has accomplished. You have all stuck here throughout the thick and thins of Nevermore Academy, and for that, I thank you." Principal Weems spoke loudly.

This was enough to prick tears in Arabella's eyes, which caused her to look down and quietly make her way to the bathroom. Fresh tears ran down her face, making her mascara run down her face. She felt herself bump into someone.

"Excuse me- sorry" She whimpered in a panic, her voice strained.

"Arabella?" She heard a familiar voice.

Arabella froze and looked back up at her with teary eyes.

"I was asked to volunteer here to help the teachers with the graduation-" Morticia told her, answering the confusion written all over Arabella's face.

"I just need to get out of here, please"

Morticia acted quickly and lead Arabella to one of the empty bathrooms. They were spacious, which caused them to both easily fit in. It was almost as big as Arabella's dorm. Tears continued to run down her face, making her nose runny.

"Sit down here. I want you to count to four for each breath you take. Breathe in. One, two, three, four."

Arabella watched her hand gestures and copied the breathing technique she was trying to show her.

"Good girl. Do you want to talk about it?"

Arabella shook her head multiple times and looked in the mirror. She was again, ultimately a mess. She wondered how she could even continue to face Morticia after she'd seen her like this.

Morticia noticed her breathing become uneven again, and she cupped Arabella's face. There she was. Sat upon the counter in an expensive bathroom, while the lady she's been secretly making out with standing in front of her.

"Can I stay with you for the summer holidays?" Arabella asked, suddenly forgetting what was just happening a few minutes ago.

"Won't your parents be worried?" Morticia replied back to her, speaking quieter because they were almost inches apart.

"They've kicked me out after I refused to work for their corrupt business. I was going to stay with Layla, but I figured they might not be too enthusiastic with another child."

"That's horrid. Of course sweetheart, you can stay with me. I might have to warn you about Pugsley and Wednesday. They can get up to trouble."

"I don't mind, as long as I'm not the victim of a murder investigation, everything's fine with me," Arabella spoke, letting out a small laugh.

Morticia pulled Arabella in, and their lips met. It was the second time they had kissed, but it felt the same as the first.

Morticia leaned over to lock the door as Arabella pulled her onto the counter beside her to deepen their kiss.
