Day Thirteen - Veronica Mars

Celeste and Jake Kane had three children. Lilly the eldest, Duncan the middle child and then the youngest Iris. All three went to Neptune High. Then when Lilly was murdered, everyone dried apart. . Not just with the Kanes but with friends. Duncan became more silent, while Iris got louder and bolder. Iris' new motto was live life and screw everyone else.

Iris strolled through the hallway texting on her phone. Logan saw his best friends sister and went to join by her side. He fell in step with her.

"Little Kane, how are you this fine morning?" he chimed

"Fuck off Logan." She huffed glancing up from her phone "Get your ugly mutt out of my face."

"Oh harsh. So grumpy this morning." Logan commented

"Unlike my brother I don't need a fly to pump me up. Now get lost." Iris went to leave. But Logan grabbed her hand, making her stop.

"Iris, wait." he told her and she looked back "I know loosing your sister was hard on all of us."

"All of us? Logan despite Lilly's antics she was more of a Mom to me than my actual one was. She was the one who made sure I ate, slept, drove me to school, made sure I did my homework. Lilly raised me."

"I know."

"Do you, now?" she retorted "How could you possibly know that I lost the only person who ever cared about me? You can't even begin to understand." She snatched her hand away and walked off.

"Iris!" Logan called but was ignored.

"Logan was sat outside, with Duncan talking to him about his sister. Logan though a jackass did care about Duncan and Iris. And Logan had concerns to raise up with his best friend.

"Did you see her with those bruises?" Logan wondered

"What bruises?" Duncan asked

"On her wrists and stomach, she reached up to get something earlier and i saw them. How can you not notice your little sisters coming home battered and bruised. What the hell man?"

"Iris avoids us like we have the plague. She takes money for what she needs." Duncan shrugged and Logan hugged out a breath. He got up and went to find Veronica.

"Veronica Mars." he chimed finding her.

"What do you want Logan?" Veronica sighs and he stops her.

"I need your help with Iris." She becomes concerned "You've seen how she's been since Lilly's death. Now I see her with bruises. Not obvious ones, ridable ones that you would normally miss if you weren't paying attention."

"Okay, I'll check on her." Veronica agrees

Veronica set about following Iris. That was after getting some essential pieces of equipment. Iris went back home to change then she left to go into town mixing with some of the known members of the bad crowd. Buying drugs and going somewhere to smoke. Then a drugged up Iris stumbled her way to a club. There she stayed unseen for a few hours, then she came out all dolled up. Her hair and make up were done, wearing a dress no 16 year old shouldn't be wearing for another 5 to 10 years. She took a cigarette from a pack and lit one up smoking it.

"Oh Iris, what have you got yourself into." Veronica sighs. Then she watched a man come out and the two started arguing. The man hits her across the face . Iris however fights back, by kicking him in the balls.

"I told you to back the fuck off!" Iris yells. Then she threw away her cigarette and headed back inside. Veronica picked up her phone and called Logan.

"Logan, we need to meet up."

Logan pulled outside of the club got out of his car and into Veronicas. He looked back to the place and then to Veronica.

"Is she in there?" Logan questioned

"Yeah and I can only hazard a guess that she's doing something she shouldn't." Veronica replied. Logan ran a hand through his hair.

"Okay, thanks." Logan got out of the car, he then went and punched the bouncer and let himself in. Veronica got out of the car and followed him inside. The music pulsated against their ears as Logan looked around.

"Please welcome, Star!" the music changed to a Christmas number and Iris began dancing.

"You've got to be kidding me." Logan huffed "Iris!" he shouted storming over, making her stop mid dance.

"Logan?" Iris questioned. Logan got up on the stage and threw Iris over his shoulder then stepped down. "Logan let go of me!" he took her outside

"Veronica? You're here too?" Iris was carried over the street

"Thanks for your help, Veronica." Logan called back opening the door to his car and lowering the teen in.

"Where are you gonna take her?" Veronica questioned

"Back to mine. Don't worry, you'll get paid." Logan gets in the drivers side and drives away.

"What the hell Logan?" Iris grumbles "You had Veronica track me? Why?"

"Because, you idiot I care. I care that my dead girlfriends little sister is going off the edge, doing God knows what. Now I find that you're dancing in a nightclub in front of men old enough to be your father. He snaps at her "You are just a kid. A kid that should be looked after. Not getting drunk, smoking, dancing and getting bruises.. You are throwing all of your sisters hard work down the drain." that his Iris where it hurt the most. Her heart.

"Fuck you." she grumbled getting teary eyed

"I don't get it, why not go to your brother or your friends?" he questioned

"I will never trust my brother and what friends?" She retorted "I have no one."

"You have me." Logan told her "You have me and I will be there for you." he promised

"Why? Why look after the sister of the girl who was cheating on you?" Iris looked at him and Logan glanced at her "Yeah, I knew . Not who but in general. She'd get calls and texts from these random numbers. They were saying things only a boyfriend and romantic other half should say."

"And she told you to keep quiet."

"She didn't know, I knew. I was bored and I went snooping on her phone to have fun and embarrass her." Iris replied "I wasn't supposed to know, so I didn't say anything." Logan sighed

"That doesn't matter now. What matters is that you get back on track. I may be an asshole screw up. But I'm not gonna let you be one."

"I don't need or want your help, Logan."

"Yeah, but I'm gonna give it to you anyway. Call it my Christmas present to you. Merry Christmas." he drawled and drove back to his place.
