Ross Poldark stood on Hedrawna Cliff looking out to sea. it was a year on since he proposed to Annabeth Williams formally Warleggan. She had denied him even though she wanted to accept with her whole heart, but she didn't want to be hurt again. Ross loved Elizabeth as did Francis and her brother George. his first love was still alive and out of reach.

"Sister." George rested his hand on hers as the rode past the man. She stared at Ross as they went by. "sister." George called again and she turned her attention to him.

"Yes." George was about to repeat what he said when he noticed her tears "Nothing." he denied wiping away her tears. Also in the carriage was Jacob and Mary, Jacob was staring at his mother who carried on as if nothing was wrong.

Later on Jacob knocked on his uncle's door and walked in, he was nervous because he and his uncle never really got along, the young boy was made to feel like a inconvenience. But he loved his mother and his mother was sad. he didn't like that so he would ask for help. He cleared his throat.

"Uncle George." he began as he nervously messed with his fingers "Uncle George I need your help."

"What could you possibly need help with?" George sighed not really paying any attention to him.

"Mama is sad." he stood braver "She is sad because she has fallen in love with Uncle Ross but doesn't want to get hurt like she did with Papa." George stopped and looked at the boy as he continued.

"Everyone thinks that I don't notice things but i do. Uncle Ross loved the Lady Elizabeth but she married his cousin. Now he loves Mama but she doesn't believe him even though she loves him as well. And I know you don't like him but i was hoping very much that you love Mama just as much as I love Mary. That you would help in someway, anyway so that she could be happy and not sad." Jacob ranted and at the and of it he took large breaths. George just stared at him.

"Jacob!? Jacob?! Where are you? It's time to go." Annabeth called, Jacob gasped and ran from the office to go to his mother. George continued to stare at the spot where Jacob had once been.

The matter of Annabeth's happiness passed from one person to another. From Jacob to George . George then went to speak with Elizabeth. He glanced at his watch as he waited to see her.

"George to what do i owe the visit?" Elizabeth wondered

"A personal matter. I have a conundrum in which i think only you can help me solve."

"Oh and what might that be?" she gestured for the two of them to sit down, which they did.

"My sister is a enigma to me, always has been." George began "she holds different values, has more power and influence more than most women. She marries someone beneath her and calls it love. He dies and then her affections turn to another. one she knows that would hurt me, yet at the same time she does not fall into his arms.

"Why not?"

"because he says he loves her, yet also loves another." he looked right at her. "I am told that they have affections but she denies him because of this." Elizabeth shuffled awkwardly.

"So your conundrum?"

"Should I put animosity aside and help my sister, even if this man is more worse choice that my previous brother in law?"

"Depends, how much do you love your sister?"

"What kind of question is that?" George scoffed

"A important one." Elizabeth replied "There was a moment years ago where Annabeth hurt herself and you were ready to burn down all of Cornwall not only to get to her, but also to make sure she was safely by your side again. it did not matter where you were or what you were doing she was never a inconvenience to you. You watched her marry Matthew not because of your grievances or doubts but because you loved her. and as long as she was happy even for a moment you were happy."

"Your meaning?"

"There is no conundrum for you to solve, you've stepped aside for her once before so that she could be happy. You can do it again "Elizabeth summarised "I think her happiness is more important to you than you realise." George listened and let it sink in.

George took a carriage to his sisters and brought her out.

"Where are we going?" she questioned

"You shall see." he simply stated. The two rode together for a short while until they came to Nampara.

"George what are we doing here?"

"Sister I will never understand your fascination for wanting to marry someone who is not your equal. I understand even less, why you have chosen Ross Poldark, after our history together. But you love him and that is all that matters.

"He does not love me, he loves Elizabeth." she denied

"Yet you are the one he proposed to./" he countered "But if it helps, if there is even a hint that he has hurt you. Our childhood squabbles and those that have happened since will not measure up to what I will do." Annabeth smiled softly and then kissed her brothers cheek. She then stepped out of the carriage, but turned back."

"Thank you, George." he hummed and brushed some lint away. Annabeth waled up to the door of Nampara House. She knocked and waited. Demelza opened the door and curtsied

"Mistress Williams." she stepped aside. Annabeth entered and was shown through the parlour. Ross looked away from the fire as Demelza left them to it. Ross stood up.

"I don't want to be hurt again." Annabeth stated "I don't but this year has been hell and i can't do it anymore Ross. I..." he strode towards her and too her face in his hands then kissed her. she returned it and the two embraced.
