"Daddy how did you meet mummy?" Thomas Shelby's 13 year old daughter Faith asked. Thomas took a drag of his cigarette and blew out the smoke.

"Why do you ask, Faith?" he questioned back and then the teen folded her arms and raised an eyebrow.

"Because I want to know. That's essentially what a question is, a means of gaining information." Tommy smirked, his daughter had all the sass of her mother, mixed with his bluntness. He took another drag of his cigarette and blew out the smoke again.

"I was not much older than you are now." Tommy began "It was Christmas time..."

-1905-

Arthur and Thomas Shelby attended a Christmas party thrown by the new family in town. Well it was more rather them sneaking in, rather than being invited. The two of them smartened themselves up as they wondered through the mingling party guests. The took drinks to blend in with the crowd.

"Right then, split up?" Tommy stated looking to his older brother.

"Meet back by the window in a hour or I'm leaving you behind." Arthur replied. Tommy gave a firm nod and the two parted ways. Everyone ignored the Shelby boys as they talked with each other in small groups. That was until somebody bumped into Tommy.

"Oi, watch where you're going boy." The older man sneered at Tommy. The younger boy was just about to snip back when they were interrupted.

"No, I think it's you who should watch where he's going." A girl voiced gaining their attention "Or shall I have my father kick you out of his party." the man grumbled and turned back around. Tommy however still had his attention on the girl that interrupted them.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer." she sassed smirking

"maybe I will." He commented back. Her smirk turned into a smile and then she came closer.

"What's your name?" she questioned

"Thomas Shelby, yours?"

"Rose Shelby or it will be." she winked cheekily, then took the glass out of his hand and handed it off. "Dance with me." she pulled him closer to the music , he let her twirl out and then pulled her close. The two began to dance slowly.

"So what makes you think you'll be a Shelby? We've only just met?" he wondered amused

"divine intervention." she answered

"No such thing." he denied

"Yes, there is It's the older sibling of free will. Who also plays their part in our meeting."

"So you believe in God?"

"I believe in a greater understanding, that everything happens for a reason. That divine intervention and free will are good siblings who work together in time such as these." she replied

"Times such as these?"

"Yes. What are the chances that we move here, throw a ridiculous party of which you gate crash. You Thomas Shelby are last years Christmas wish." she explained making Tommy laugh.

"Am I now?"

"Yes you are. Last year i saw a shooting star, pass right by my window as my parents fought yet again over my fathers cheating. I made a wish that I would find someone worthy to be my husband one day. A man better than my father, someone who would be my equal. I have it all planned out." Tommy raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, of course you do."

"Yes I do and in times fo sorrow you will be thankful I did." he twirled her around and back to him again.

"Times of great sorrow?" he questioned and she made them stop.

"Yes. Don't you feel it?" she whispered "There is a shift in the air. Something is coming, something big and dreadful. Something that will change us. Shake us to our very core." she held on to him just a little tighter.

"A anchor to stable us is needed. Strength and love in numbers. A will to survive, a unbreakable bond. that is what we will become."

"And what makes you think I would agree to such terms?" Rose pulled back and stared at him

"You pull me closer, instead of running away." she muttered as their breath mingled together. "I am yours and you are mine, Thomas Shelby. Divine intervention." the two held each other close,

"What happens after?" Tommy wondered

"After?"

"After we are married ?" Rose smiled and closed her eyes leaning her forehead against his.

"Our first child will come before the changing of the tide, she will be a perfect mixture of the two of us."

"She?"

"Daddy's little girl. You will teach her how a man should treat a woman. Our second shall be your heart's desire and a Christmas miracle . Cheeky, rambunctious but full of love. Finally our third, left to the fates that brought us togetherCome when you have reached the heights you haven't thought of yet."

"Tommy!" their bubble was shattered by Arthur running over to them. "We gotta go, now. Right now."

"Stop that boy!" Rose heard her father shout.

"Follow me." she pulled Tommy away. Arthur followed glancing back to see if Augustus Montague was following, which he was with two bulky blokes.

"He's gaining." Arthur called

"Here quickly." she lead them into a corridor and then into a drawing room, then she let go of Tommy's hand so she could open a window. "Out of here and take a left you should find a footpath that will lead you through the woods and take you back to the main road. You should be able to get home from there." Arthur climbed up first, Tommy went to follow but Rose pulled him back. She gave him a chaste kiss.

"What was that for?"

"A promise that we'll see each other very soon. One that we'll both keep."

"You're very sure of yourself."

"Hummm, you'll find that endearing eventually." she giggled

"I already do." he in turn gave her a chaste kiss "Till we meet again...wife." he climbed out of the window and ran off.

"Till we meet again husband." she grinned and closed the window.

-Present Day-

"Daddy!" A little boy came running over to Faith and Tommy. Tommy picked him up and shat him on his lap.

"Max Shelby, what have I told you about running me over, your worse than a bloody car. Faith be a love and help me out." A older rose came in huffing into the living room while cradling her swollen belly.

"Yes, mummy." Faith went and grabbed the bags of food while Rose sat herself down

"Have you been running your mother ragged again? What have I told you about that?" Tommy addressed his son.

"That he shouldn't do it." Faith commented coming back in with the shopping. "But he never listens."

"Yes I do." the four year old scowled.

"Then act like it." Faith stuck her tongue out at him and he returned the favour .

"Enough you two. Now lets get this food away while your mother rests. Come on." He stood them up and then went to kiss Rose on the head and went to help them.
