If you should fall into a sleep,
A deep enough sleep, a deep enough sleep,
Your dreams will only grow darker,
If you don't look where you leap. And should your dreams grow very black,
So shadowy black, so shadowy black,
You must be very careful,
If you're ever to make it back. For there are things in dreams that dwell,
They delve and dwell, they delve and dwell,
And those that slept and saw them,
They never woke to tell. And if you see a distant light,
A dying light, a dying light,
Then follow till you find the source,
A lantern oh so bright,The hands that hold the lantern tight,
They grasp it tight, they grasp it tight,
Belong to the Dream Digger,
And he'll be quite polite. He'll grin and flick his pointy ears,
His twitching ears, his twitching ears,
He'll gently shake or kiss your hand,
He's unlike all his peers. He'll ask you if you want to stay,
Won't you stay? Won't you stay?
The night is fading, soon the sun,
Will come and save the day.But the Dream-Digger tells a nasty lie,
Wicked lie, wicked lie,
He wants to drag you deeper,
You can see it in his eye.So tell him in your fiercest voice,
Bravest voice, bravest voice,
Your wish is that you might ascend,
And that's your final choice. He'll grit his teeth but grin the same,
Smile the same, smile the same,
He'll take you up the dreamy rope,
You've caught him in his game.If you should fall into a sleep,
A deep enough sleep, a deep enough sleep,
The digger will ask you 'won't you stay?'
As he perches on his heap.
