What did you see when you went to town?
What did you see, oh deary me,
What did you see when you went to town,
to make you look so grim?
What did I spot when I went to town?
A quite funny shop, and a leather crop.
What did I spot when I went to town,
but some people on display.
What did you see when you went down the road?
What did you see, oh deary me,
What did you see when you went down the road,
to make you look so pale?
What did I spy when I went down the road?
A barber's stand, with an unsteady hand.
What did I spy when I went down the road,
But some folk with crimson smiles.
What did you see when you went up the hill,
what did you see, oh deary me,
What did you see when you went up the hill,
that made you look so ill.
What did I catch when I went up the hill,
a mountain of boots, and a tree with odd fruits,
What did I catch when I went up the hill,
their stems were made of rope.
