Pressing send on that text seems a little weird. But after the conversation I just had with Cam, I know it's only right.
I stare at my phone for a minute as I watch the three dots pulsate on the screen.
"What if she doesn't reply?" I ask Cam as he flips through the channels on the tv.
"Then that's what your ass gets for taking advice from Coop," he answers and I take a deep breath as I reflect on my decision. _________________
Two Days Before
After Olivia leaves, I decide to visit my childhood best friend, Coop. We've known each other since grade school. And because she recently got accepted into law school about thirty minutes away, we don't see each other much at all.
"Bro, why has it been weeks since you last came to visit?" She asks as I walk inside her dorm room.
"Between football and school, I don't have time to be sitting in this jail cell you call a dorm," I joke as we shake hands.
I sit down and peep at a law book she has sitting on the desk.
"Wait, what is that?" She asks as she stands and examines my neck.
"What is what?" I ask before looking into her mirror.
She tugs at my shirt and in the mirror I see a bite mark and two scratches from the afternoon I shared with Olivia.
"Nothing," I say quickly as I try to fix my shirt.
Coop and I have shared lots of things, but my sex life isn't one of them. Truthfully, had I known I had visible passion marks, I would've covered them up before I walked inside.
"Nah, I know what that is. But the question is who?" She questions. "Because the last time we talked you were single as a dollar bill."
"I still am," I reply.
"Oh so now you're some sort of player?" She counters.
"No. But if you must know, I'm feeling this girl that moved in across the street."
"Wait? So Old Man Willy croaked?" She asks in a panic.
"Nah, it's his granddaughter."
"Woah, you're hitting Old Man Willy's granddaughter?" Coop asks in disbelief. "How long have you known this girl?"
"I'm not hitting anything. And we met about a week ago!"
My answer leaves her in shock. "So that bite and scratch isn't what I think it is?"
"Coop, stop!" I say and she laughs.
"So she did give it up in less than a week? I wonder if she has any cute friends."
