When Olivia's given an ultimatum by her parents, she chooses to stay with her grandfather in South Crenshaw. And what was originally supposed to be temporary, turns into a permanent memory that will last a lifetime.
Olivia's massage session went exactly how we wanted it to go. All of my muscles were relaxed, except the big muscle below my belt line. But with the help of my girlfriend, I was able to relax that muscle as well.
"Do you have to go to practice?" She asks before kissing me.
"Yes, I do! And I'm going to be late if you keep kissing on me like this," I say as I get up and put my shirt on.
"No! Don't go!" She says playfully and I kiss her.
"I have to," I say. "But I can come back after practice. Then I can beat you in Checkers like I've been promising you."
"Actually, I can't because I told Layla I would hang out with her later," she tells me and I take a huge gulp of air at the thought.
"Oh yeah? What are you two going to be doing?" I ask.
"I think she wants to finalize the guest list to her dinner party," she says nonchalantly and I know for a fact I have to tell her about Layla before my name ends up on that list.
"Really?"
"Yeah, and that reminds me. I wanted to know if you would like to be my plus one," she says with a smile and I nod.
"Of course," I say as I take a deep breath. "It's just that I've been wanting to tell you—-"
"Hold on, babe," she says and I watch her answer her cell phone. "Yes, Layla!"
I immediately excuse myself and go to the restroom at the sound of her name.

"Just tell her, Spencer!" I whisper to myself as I stare into the mirror. "Now's the time! Actually, it's been the time. But now is definitely the time. C'mon Spence! She's your girl and she'll understand!"
I splash water on my face in effort to build up the nerves before walking back into the room and seeing Olivia taking the sheets off of her bed.
"Now I'm definitely glad you will be at Layla's dinner——"
"Why? What's wrong? What happened?" I ask in a panic as I think about the worse possible scenario.
"Nothing's wrong! I just have a feeling this year will be very different. She's talking about not inviting her 'sort of' boyfriend, Asher and bringing some random guy she kissed at a party last week."
Her words feel like a punch to my chest and I really can't breath. "She—- what—-"
Olivia bends down to pick up my phone that accidentally fell from the sheets she just removed.
"That's exactly how I feel! It sounds crazy but I told her to shoot her shot with the new guy. Call him! Because if anyone knows what what trying something new will get you, it's me." Olivia says enthusiastically before handing me my phone.
