The rain pattered against the window at a dangerous speed, causing a frown to tug on your cheeks. You turned to see your best friend, Wednesday, laying on your bed looking at you.
You sighed, pushing yourself away from the window and trudging over to the bed. You took a seat at the end of the bed, your head turned to face her. "I have no idea how I'm gonna get home."
"Told you you should've brought a jacket."
"I know," you said. "But it looked ugly and emo-"
You thinned your lips and Wednesday shot you a glare. You apologized, sighing and turning your head towards the TV. "I should probably leave. You know how my parents are about curfew."
Wednesday hummed, "You could call her and ask her to drive you."
You shook your head, "No, I tried, but the line's dead."
"You used the landline? Why didn't bring your phone?"
"I never do," you said, and Wednesday furrowed her eyebrows. All of her other friends always brought their phones with them, and usually spent most of their time on them.
"Since when?"
"Since I decided against becoming a slave to technology," you smiled and chuckled, turning to her.
The smallest smile formed on her lips, something that was rare for Wednesday but unusual for you. You had known her for a while, and was used to her smiling from time to time.
"You remembered what I said."
"How could I forget?" you turned back to the TV, cringing at the acting. "God, this acting is terrible."
"I think it's humourous."
You chuckled, "Can't say I'm surprised- hey, isn't this FRIENDS?"
Wednesday said yes and you hummed and nodded.
A while later you decided it was best to just deal with the rain, but Wednesday wouldn't allow that. "You can't get wet, you know you'll get sick. Your immune system is terrible." You were glad she was so caring of you, but couldn't help but be caught a bit off guard because of her insult.
She shuffled over to the doorway, opening it to grab a black jacket. She handed it to you professionally, saying, "You can keep it."
You smiled softly, "This is the nicest thing you've ever done for me."
Wednesday's gaze flickered between you and the jacket. "Yeah, don't think much of it."
You giggled, Wednesday leading to the doorway where you said your goodbyes. You gave her a short hug, though you wanted it to be longer, kissing her cheek before slamming her doors.
Wednesday stood in the mudroom, her dark eyes widened- it appeared as if they were sparkling. She then heard an awkward cough behind her -or what was supposed to be a cough- only for Pugsley and Thing to be standing a few yards away from her.
"Knew you liked her," was all her brother said, smiling before him and Thing left back to their rooms.
Maybe rainy days weren't so depressing after all, and maybe Wednesday wasn't so against her being happy for once.
