"So, how about you, Y/n?"

Your pupils widened and you looked up, meeting your friends' eyes. "Um, what? Sorry," you chuckled awkwardly.

Enid rolled her eyes and Ajax sighed. "God, that's all you say anymore," Enid exclaimed. "Sorry."

Ajax put a comforting hand on Enid's shoulder, "Drop it, Enid. She doesn't mean any harm," Ajax and Enid glanced at you. "Probably."

You sighed lightly, blinking slowly. "Sorry, what did you say?"

"Who are you taking to the winter dance?" Enid asked.

"Um," you thought. "Dances are overrated, I think."

Wednesday chuckled. Or scoffed - you couldn't tell. "That's one thing we agree on."

"You aren't taking anyone?" asked the blonde, frowning. "That's so depressing! So, what, are you just gonna stay at home?"

You nodded, looking at her. Enid shrugged, saying a few more words to you before turning back to her best friend and boyfriend. They spoke for a while while you read, eventually leaving them to go to the county library.

Surprisingly, Weems had actually allowed you to leave the academy for lunch. You were her favorite - you weren't sure entirely why, but you appreciated her kindness towards you.

You entered the tiny library, making your way to the corner of the adult section. Behind large book cases was a small space, blue couches and plants littering the space. You entered it with a relaxed smile, it completely disappearing when you completely entered the space.

Someone else was there; someone from school. Though it seemed like a normal occurrence for most, it was something that had never happened to you. This was your happy space- the only place where you felt where you could be yourself- and here some random guy was, reading one of your favorite books.

He glanced up at you, hearing a noise, his eyes going wide. He almost immediately realized this was probably your space, setting the book down and letting out an awkward laugh.

"Um, hi, sorry- this is probably your space, I'm assuming?" the young man asked.

Your eyes went round as he stood. You swallowed, shaking your head slowly, "No, it's fine. You- you can stay."

What?! You cursed at yourself internally, managing a broken smile before the man nodded. You weren't sure exactly why you said what you said, but you didn't regret it as much as you seemed.

"Thank you. Really. I can't stand the lounge area out there- there's always some assholes causing trouble."

You looked up at him. You look like the asshole.

"Yeah." you didn't exactly plan on sounding so rude, but you also didn't exactly want him to stay.

The two of you sat in awkward silence that felt like eternity until the man spoke. "Um, pardon my rudeness. I'm Xavier," he said, holding his hand out for me to shake.

You hesitantly shook his hand, "I'm Y/n."

"It's a pleasure. I know this sounds weird but I've actually read some of your books-"

You quickly cut him off, surprise causing your manners to dissipate. "You've read my books?" you exclaimed rudely, to which he nodded. "They don't seem like your type."

"Oh- well, I find all book genres can succeed to impress me. It's the authors that really matter, don't you think?"

You stared at him, wide-eyed. Where had this boy been hiding?

"Um, yeah," you said flusteredly, a hint of blush coating your cheeks. "So, would you like to sit?"

Xavier gave you an affirmative, and you both sat on the couch so you were beside each other.

The rest of your week was spent like that. You spent more and more time with Xavier and less time with your friends. The two of you would talk in school often; you found out that the two of you had most of your classes together.

"I think I could fall in love with him."

Your best friend, a normie named Rachel, finally looked up from her book. "WHAT?!" she yelled at the top of her lungs, closing her book and sitting on her knees.

"Ye- well, I dunno!" you said vehemently.

"OMG, are you taking him to the dance?"

"How did you know about the dance?"

"Bianca told me!" said the normie with a soft chuckle. "You are, aren't you?"

You thought for a moment. Take Xavier to the dance? You weren't sure if you were even going before, but going with a boy was something extraordinary.

"Well, I don't think he likes me," you said nervously.

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Fine, I'll just ask him for you."

And despite arguing for a half hour, Rachel was still focused on you attending the dance beside Xavier.

It was the next week, a cold Tuesday, where you nervously left your math class. You had just completed a stupidly long test and you were very excited to see Xavier. But to your surprise, he passed by you without a word.

"Hi, Xavier," you exclaimed cheerfully. You waved to him, but he didn't bat an eye towards your direction.
