"Are you even listening to me right now?? Earth to Brooke!" Brooke knocks out of it, raising an eyebrow over at her two best friends in confusion. The crowded chatter of the lunch room seems to come into focus as the boy sat across from her flails his arms in frustration.
"Sorry, what were you saying?" Brooke wonders and Miko groans.
"There was a body found in the woods last night! It was cut in fucking half!" Miko repeats, practically bouncing in his seat. Darcie, sat right next to Miko, rolls her eyes, leaning her cheek against her palm.
"He's been waiting to tell you this all morning. He was super upset when you missed our morning meetup" Darcie brings up, forking some of her salad into her mouth.
"A body? Cut in half? Jesus, what did they use a chainsaw to kill them?" Brooke asks in disbelief.
"That's what I'm saying! Stiles went to investigate last night with Scott. I wanted to come along too but he wouldn't let me. Something about not wanting me to witness something that grusome or whatever. He acts like I haven't seen every horror movie under the sun." He rolls his eyes with a huff, moving to eat some of his own food then.
"Yeah, don't remind me. If I have to watch Chucky one more time, I'm gonna make sure the next body they find is mine" Darcie complains and Brooke snorts while Miko elbows her with a frown.
"Don't joke like that, this stuff is serious" He scolds and Darcie shrugs, unbothered.
"Seriously, Miko, seeing things in horror movies is way different compared to real life. I bet you'd be scarred for life if you caught sight of half a body." Brooke points out and Miko shrugs.
"Yeah, I'm kind of glad I didn't go. Not even twenty minutes after Stiles left, I watched my Dad drag him in by his jacket and give him the scolding of a lifetime for listening in on his calls. It was hilarious" Miko grins and Darcie and Brooke both roll their eyes in amusement.
"What about you, Brooke? How was your night?" Darcie brings up and Brooke shrugs.
"Same old, same old. Played video games in my room" Brooke explains and the other two scoff.
"Gee, sounds like a fun time" Darcie teases and Brooke shrugs. It's not like there was anything else to do in that house. It was either stay hidden in her room and play video games or have to face her Dad's wrath. Or do what her older brother Isaac does and stay out all day. Though she didn't really like to go out so she liked to stay hidden in her room.
Their relationship with their Dad was complicated. Ever since their mom passed and then their oldest brother, Dad turned into some pyscho path. Brooke didn't feel like going into details on what exactly he likes to do to the two of them but in order to continue living in the house, he has them working at the graveyard with him.
It's not the best job and the two siblings only get to work one day together out of the entire week but it also got her a bit of money to buy things for herself cause her father sure doesn't.
"Trying out for the lacrosse team this year, Brooke?" Miko asks hopefully, his fork switching from hand to hand as he looked at her.
"Can girls even join?" Brooke sighs out.
"I'm sure they can. We don't have a girls team, why wouldn't Coach let you try out for the boys? And you promised me you'd try out this year with me. I don't want to have to third wheel Scott and Stiles on the bench. I want a best friend of my own to be benched with" Miko says and Brooke scoffs.
"Gee, thanks. That makes me feel good about my chances" Darcie lets out a chuckle.
"I think you should also try out. Put those muscles to good use." Darcie smirks and Brooke rolls her eyes.
