I dream that I'm back in school. The sun beats through the widely opened windows, and the hum of a fan lingers nearby.
It's oddly quiet for a classroom of thirty-one immature ten year olds, and I notice everyone has their heads down, scribbling furiously at their books.
This is a memory. Not too long ago, maybe a couple of months back. Dulci sits next to me, her golden blonde hair tied in a neat plait. She purses her lips before looking up at Harry, who sits directly in front of her.
'Harry, you're meant to be writing your letter now!' she scolds, making Harry snicker.
He breaks into an irritating version of Let It Go, which he'd decided would be the most annoying song to sing 24/7. He was right.
'Harry, be quiet!' Dulci hisses, looking up at Miss Ward, who's marking Daisy's book. Finally, Harry quietens a little, but he still continues to sing random songs from TikTok. Resi, who was unlucky enough to have to sit next to Harry, sighs in exasperation.
'Lily Rachel?' asks Dulci.
People in school always call me "Lily Rachel" instead of "Lily" because there's another girl in our class called Lilly, who also sits on our table, but, in this memory, she's on holiday or something.
'Yeah?' I reply, turning away from my book.
'How do you spell "Sir or Madam"? I need it for the beginning of my letter,' she asks, looking at me with her bluey-green eyes.
I write it on my whiteboard in my neatest handwriting and pass it to her, but before she could even say thank you, Harry tips the coloured pencil jar.
'Harry, please! You're really annoying me now!' says Dulci, picking up Harry's mess and placing it into the glass jar.
He laughs at Dulci before continuing with his karaoke. Dulci groans before continuing with her work.
Izzy, who sits to the right of Dulci, covers her ears to block out Harry's chanting.
'Ugh, I'm so bored,' says Resi, sighing.
'Quiet, please!' Miss Ward says, glancing up at our table. 'That means you too, Harry!'
We all quieten, getting back to work as quickly as possible.
It's only been a minute when I hear a deafening noise coming from, you guessed it, Harry's desk.
'Harry!' Dulci, Izzy and Resi say in unison.
Typical Harry. He'd spilt his water bottle. Again.
Harry races towards the paper towels, his short brown hair hardly moving in the dash. He begins frantically scrubbing the table with the tissues, but it only seems to make the puddle grow even bigger.
Dulci leans back, brushing her hair out of her face. 'Harry, you did that on purpose! Stop annoying all of us!'
I stand from my seat, grabbing some paper towels and helping Harry dry the table. 'Don't worry, Harry, I'm done with my letter anyways,' I say, looking into the puddle.
But then the memory stops being a memory. Something had changed. Time had stopped. Everything and everyone is frozen.
The reflection in the puddle shines and changes. I see a room, a dark one to be specific. The puddle sucks me in like a black hole, and I fall.
It takes me a moment to calm myself. My eyes adjust to the dark, and I recognise that this is the room that Eris had confronted me in. Except, this time I'm not the one in the chair.
