'How- how did you get that?' I say, staring in awe at the shiny ocean blue pendant that hangs on a black string. The wood curls and twists around the jewel, but only on the back side. The shape of the gem is a perfect circle, and it gleams in the early sunset.

'Oh, I found it in the sea one time, when we were looking for you back in England,' Percy explains. He passes the necklace to me. 'Mr Cod told me that this was yours.'

'Mr Cod?' I frown, taking the necklace and putting it on. 'Like, an actual cod?'

He nods. 'Yeah, I never caught his name.'

Annabeth laughs. 'I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Seaweed Brain.'

We go quiet. I hear something. It sounded like a drum.

Annabeth suddenly stands and sheaths her dagger. 'Do you hear that?'

But before we can answer, we hear a deafening shout coming from the midst of the forest.

'FEE FI FO FUM, I SMELL THE BLOOD OF DEMIGOD BUM!'

We all turn around, looking for the source of the scream. I grab my sword, raising it in panic and confusion.

'There!' points Annabeth, looking up at a figure overhead.

'Why now?' I whine, still tired from the battle with Medusa.

'Welcome to the life of a demigod,' answers Percy, giving me an it'll-be-okay grin.

I turn to see a pair of massive worn Nike trainers and jean shorts. Either it's a giant, or just an abnormally tall man. Turns out it's neither.

As I look up, I see that the man wears a red chequered shirt, he's bald, and has one-eyed glasses.

Wait, what?

Studying his face from my distance, I can see that he has one big brown eye in the middle of his face, where his two eyes should've been. How . . . peculiar?

'How-' I begin.

'A cyclops,' says Annabeth. She turns to Percy. 'Shall we attempt to save this one? For Tyson's sake, I mean.'

He nods.

'Who's Tyson?' I wonder aloud, still staring at the giant that towered above us.

'Your half-brother. He's a cyclops too,' answers Percy. He steps towards the creature, raising his arms in a sign of peace.

'Please don't eat us!' he yells, loud enough for him to hear.

He looks confused. 'No eat?'

Percy shakes his head. 'No eat!'

Annabeth walks to Percy's side. 'What's your name?'

'Eugene the Giant,' he booms with pride. 'You is small.'

'Eugene, we don't want to hurt you!' says Percy. 'My brother is like you too!'

'Brother a cyclopes like me?' Eugene tilts his head, his glasses almost falling off his huge nose. 'Well, I no eat you then. You is best friend now.'

Percy grins, and gives a thumbs up. His voice is probably sore.

'Me miss friends. But friends got taken away,' says Eugene, his voice a little sad. 'Am I too short?'

'You aren't too short, Eugene! You're perfect!' says Annabeth.

'Thank you, female human!' says Eugene in his broken English. 'No female ever been as kind as you is!'
