ricky's pov

i watch the doctors frantically attach an oxygen tank to my niece and my heart stops. i walk up to the nurse as she's calling someone on the phone.

"what's happening?", i ask, quiet enough so my sister doesn't hear.

"sir...", she breaths out, "she's going. the cancer is spreading too fast and it's infecting her lungs."

i run my hands through my hair and over my face in distress. i hear a doctor talking and turn to see him breaking the news to my sister. her eyes go lifeless as the words roll of the doctor's tongue. i rush up to her just as she collapses into a mess of sobs.

i hold her tight, hugging her. i feel tears of my own forming while watching the doctors do anything they can to save her. it's like this hospital room goes completely dark and depressing even though the sun is high in the sky, shining through the window.

"we've injected everything we can to save her. it could take a few moments to see if anything happens.", the doctor says, "please bare with us."

they exit the room with equipment and we're left in the silence. my sister's screams of heartbreak fill the room with pain. it makes my stomach go empty every time sobs exit her mouth.

i glance over to see nini in the corner, biting her lip. she looks sad to see this situation. i've noticed she has a really big heart. it's something i've always admired about her.

i watch her face, feeling it calm me down in this frantic situation. she nods her head towards the door and then points to paige and i. i scrunch my face up but her face holds a sense of urgency.

"hey come on...", i whisper, "let's just walk okay? let's take a break from being in here."

my sister and i slowly exit the hospital room, beginning to head towards a small lobby area to sit down and relax.

nini's pov

i quickly lock the door behind ricky and paige so the doctor's can't come back. i turn to face the little girl who lies lifeless on the bed.

i suck in a nervous breath and walk up to the side of the bed. i take her hand in mine and hold it tightly. i shut my eyes and channel all my energy to my hands.

i use my free hand to hover it above her body and i wave it side to side across her small body in the air. i can feel the white mist swirling around the room and then the faint feeling of sparkles falling from the air touch me.

i take in a calm, deep breath and then squeeze her hand tightly. i feel the energy i've channeled go through my hand and exit. i hold her hand for a second longer before letting go. i let out a tired breath and see the mist and sparkles disappearing slowly.

i stare down at her pale face and i move the hair out of the way.

"come on sweet girl...", i whisper.

i walk over and unlock the hospital door. the doctors come rushing back in but pause when they catch sight of the monitors. her heartbeat is starting to rise back to a normal level. they look at the small child and see her legs move around. she turns a little before lifting her head up.

she looks scared. her eyes are searching the room for, i assume, her mom and uncle. i let out a big breath and smile, knowing that my magic just worked.

i run out of the room, shouting as i sprint down the hallway.

"ricky!", i scream, "ricky!"

i see them sitting in a small waiting area. his head perks up and he looks at me confused when seeing my smile.

he jumps up, looking at me. i nod my head at him and he still looks confused.

"she's awake.", i breath out.

his sister arrives next to him and she looks awfully lost. she looks around the room before looking at ricky.

"is she- is nini here right now?", she whispers, leaning in.

ricky nods, seeming to be in complete shock. he reaches his hand out and i take it.

"she's right here.", he says, "she says that grace is awake."

"she's what?!", paige exclaims, taking off down the hallway.

i take ricky's hand and drag him to the room. we follow paige in and she's standing by her daughter, hugging her tightly and showering her with kisses.

ricky smiles at me and i nod at him, motioning my hands out to his niece. he was too in shock that he forget how to move towards her. he walks over and grace smiles widely. soon, paige's husband comes rushing in. he starts tearing up at the sight of his healthy looking daughter. they're all surrounding her with smiles and love.

it warms my heart up and then i see ricky glance up at me.

ricky's pov

i look over at my sister and lean down to whisper in her ear.

"i'll be back. i have to do something."
