Yoongi blinks his eyes several times hoping the fogginess will recede the pain a bit.
"Can we come in?" Seokjin asks, holding Yoongi's daughter's hand in one hand.
Yoongi looks at them both and thinks his hyung would have made a better father to her. Then he looks at the love of his life and corrects himself. She is his.
Minji cautiously approaches the bed, her eyes wide, face blank. She is in a cute white frock, her hair tied up. She looks neat and put together. Nothing like her father.
She comes to stand at the foot of his hospital bed.
Yoongi stretches his left arm and curls his fingers and motions her to come forward. "Won't you come to your father?"
Yoongi feels awful. He shouldn't have let it happen in her presence.
"Can I?" Minji asks softly before she is climbing the bed and kicks her shoes off. Yoongi wraps his arm stuck with the IV drip around her and pulls her closer to his chest.
"I am okay, Princess. Appa is okay."
That is enough.
Minji puts both her arms around his neck, clinging more onto him than hugging and starts sobbing loudly.
Even though he had expected it, Yoongi is still shocked. His daughter doesn't cry often. She is usually very emotionally restrained.
He rubs her back distraught and her sobbing only gets louder.
Yoongi looks up at Seokjin in panic who goes to sit on the stool again and mouths, "Let her."
Yoongi noses her hair and takes a deep breath of his daughter's scent. Still very childlike. Still like when she was the infant placed in his callous, shocked arms.
Though she may have grown older, she is still a baby to him.
(Taehyung these days tells him worriedly that she is short for her age but Yoongi ignores him. Let her be short, so what)
Yoongi rubs her back whispering 'It is okay, love, I'm right here' over and over.
A nurse comes into the ward bustling in, frowning but stops when Seokjin signals her to leave. She hands him a jar of water and he takes it from her to place it on the desk next to Yoongi. The vase on it is now empty because Yoongi soon after had started hacking up, allergic and sensitive to just about anything. The marigold flowers were then thrown away. He looks at the father-daughter holding onto each other and Jin looks away, a sort of emptiness fleeting in his chest.
He steps out of the room to give them privacy.
"Love, can you look at me?" Yoongi asks her. He has to tap her twice on the back of her head to get her attention. She shakes her head. "Min Jiyeon, look at me."
